Posted - August 30 2005 : 5:54:56 PM DWB - I love your screen name!
Has anyone ever woke up the LOTM soundtrack in their mind! I think I've been watching the movie too much and now the "Kiss" is stuck in my head. Then again how can you tire looking at Uncas and Hawkeye. and some more! Even Chingachgook is a handsome fella'. If I were 10 years older I might just chase him down! |

I know that doctors are not magicians, but we found out that the hospital is going under and that more than likely they were primarily responsible for his death.
My most sincere sympathy! |

Posted - August 28 2005 : 2:51:47 PM I'm sorry for the loss of your friend. God bless all of those grieving.
Considering a 4th? I admire your courage!

On a lighter note: Our summer has been one for the record books, but the humidity is finally wanning which means the monsoons are almost over.
My oldest is about to turn 5, our second oldest will be 3 and our youngest turns 2 in just a few short months! My how time passes! I was pregnant with my oldest during the last Gathering I attended. Hard to believe that was 5 years ago!
We are blessed with happiness, health and eachother! Now, if I can just talk my hubby into another baby??? |

Also, Rich.. Why isn't there a picture of you? By the way, beautiful family!
Thanks ---
No picture of me 'cause I've broken too many cameras. BTW, that Mexican did scream a little, but he sure tasted good! |

Posted - August 26 2005 : 11:13:37 PM Thought I'd check in since I haven't been around in a while and this seemed like as good a place as any to update folks... I've spent the past month or so filling in as night editor at the paper because we've had so many staff changes and I LOVE it...you get to do a lot of spot news and thinking on your feet...plus I don't have to spend as much time talking to all the wingnuts the religion beat seems to be attracting these days! Although we do get to talk to all the wingnuts who call us at night after one tequila too many and think they are seeing space aliens... Anyway, weather in South Carolina has gone from horribly horrendously hot (heat index 108) last weekend to beautiful, warm and sunny. I'm sitting here wondering if my poor cousins in the Florida Panhandle are going to get flattened again by Katrina ...and we're hoping to get through this Friday night without our usual weekly brawl or friendly neighborhood riot at a football game. Last week Mace and fists were flying across town...so far tonight it's quiet. so how has YOUR week been? Red |

Cooking recipes?
I just found out I can make one hell of a burger. And it was during my 2nd cooking attempt!
Since I've been living alone, I've cooked up some great rotisserie chicken - also fried - meat loaf, turkey, lasagna, even some Mexican ... Of course, some lady named Swanson helped out a bit ... but hey, I turned on the microwave!
I am sure that the rotisserie chicken, fried chicken, meatloaf, turkey and lasagna turned out good. But I'm not sure that Mexican liked being cooked! |

Posted - August 21 2005 : 02:12:36 AM I just got home from visiting with Cherie and Mark. They've had a great trip, but I think they're ready to be home. They fly out tomorrow morning. They've had great weather up until today, so they weren't able to see Mt. McKinley on the train trip down from Fairbanks. It's been smoky here too due to all the fires in the Interior. They also haven't seen much wildlife. They especially wanted to see a moose, but no luck. Cherie says she'll post some pictures from the trip. She said she has a great one of a whale breaching. I'm looking forward to seeing that one. Chris |

Posted - August 19 2005 : 06:48:48 AM The damp weather really brought out the rust on my First Model Long Land Pattern firelock and things finally calmed down enought so I could finally do something about it. As I scrubbed and polished, I was thinking about the idea of having nothing to talk about. When the conversation lags, there are always related things to be done.
Sergeant Pray brought forcemeat for breakfast last weekend. Breakfast sausage flavoured with cloves and nutmeg was surprizing. 18th century flavoring is probably not a good thing to spring on your friends. |

Posted - August 17 2005 : 10:46:07 PM Alaska sounds like a place that I would love to visit, but I just have to mention it to my husband and he starts shivering. Hey Chris, did you ever get together with Cherie and Marc. I bet that they loved Alaska!!!
Love, Kay |

Posted - August 17 2005 : 10:32:37 PM I was back in Vermont for two weeks last month and the temperature was over 90 most of the time I was there. It was unbelievable. Of course no one had air conditioning, so we had fans blowing on us whenever we were indoors. Although I love visiting family, it was good to get home. Chris |

Posted - August 17 2005 : 1:31:41 PM I guess you just get accustomed to it. I can tolerate the heat, but I think I am freezing to death if the temperature drops below 40 degrees!
Congratulations on your cooking success Wade! I've prepared things even the dog won't touch yet I press on..... |

Posted - August 17 2005 : 09:58:37 AM I'm with you Chris, - honestly don't know how folks can live down south. Gets much over 75ish, and that's about all I can stand. This has truly been a "summer from hell" here. With the "heat index" it's been around 102* - 106*, completely unbearable. Thank G*d it's cooled off lately, mid-sixties in the morning, and fall closing in - not soon enough! |
Chris |
Posted - August 17 2005 : 12:41:02 AM It's cooled off now, but last week, Alaska was frying in the heat. (Of course here, 80 degrees is killer hot.) My husband and I were laying the foundation for our barn in the sun and thought we were dying. We had our shirts soaked in cold water and wet towels around our necks. I realize you Southerners will laugh at us, but up until the last two years, we only hit 80 degrees one or two days a year. Even temps in the 70s were unusual. Now we are back to our more common 60s and we love it. Fall must be just around the corner. Chris |

Why Mr. Dillon, you are a man of many talents! Girls love a guy who can cook!
But, do we dare ask what happened on your 1st cooking attempt?!!
That was Hamburger Helper. That came out pretty good too. So far, no bad attempts. |
