Hi Gang,
I just found out yesterday that my dad has to have surgery today. He has been having problems with his kidneys. He has a horseshoe kidney. He said that he was born with them connected, but they have never given him trouble until now. If y'all could say a little prayer for daddy, then I would really appreciate it!!! THANKS!!!

Love,
Kay

Kay, so glad to hear your dad is home and on the mend, and Carol, hope you are doing well too! Glad to see that prayer continues to work!

Kaye,
I haven't been on very much either having major surgery myself. I just finished reading this tread and my prayers are with you and your family. It sounds like things are on the upswing.

God Speed,
ccorner

Thank you so much Carol. I hope that you are on the mend too!!! Take care!!!

Love,
Kay

She was born in University. We spent one night and part of the next day in the waiting room, and went to a nearby Waffle House at about 3 AM. Augusta is OK and the hospitals are good. Fort Gordon is probably better, though.
Kaylynn44 Posted - June 19 2005 : 10:27:02 PM
I wondered if he might be in one of the Augusta hospitals since they are close by. I am familiar with them since my granddaughter was born there. I forgot about Fort Gordon.

Fitz,
I have been meaning to respond to this post. I had two nieces born at St. Joseph's, two nieces and a nephew born at University, and my son was born at MCG. St. Joseph's might have to close down due to funding. That is really a shame because so many people say that St. Joseph's is the best hospital out of all of them. Which hospital was your granddaughter born in?

Love,
Kay

Sounds like a good southern breakfast to me! But where's the bacon?

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing until I visited with him today and he told me that he hasn't had much of a taste for any kind of meat. But he does have to have his grits and eggs.

Love,
Kay

How wonderful that you have such a loving family that cares so much! That support must mean so much to you and your father! That your dad felt hungry is a very positive sign!

Carter,
Yes, it did mean alot to daddy to have us all there. We will all be there for him tomorrow too. I think that he thinks all of the kids have moved back home cause he sees all so much now.
I was so glad that he started getting his appetite back. He had grits, eggs, and toast this morning. Best news of all is that his kidneys are functioning again!!!

Hi Kay
Just read all the posts. My prayers and with you and your family. I just wanted you to know that.

Thank you Cherie!!! I appreciate yours and everybody else's thoughts and prayers. It means ALOT!!!

Love,
Kay

When I got to the hospital this morning, daddy wasn't in ICU. They had taken him down to Nuclear Medicine and they couldn't tell me when he would be back, so I went to mama's and stayed there until my other sisters got there, and we went back to the hospital at 1:00 to try and see daddy. Well, only two could visit with him at a time and there was seven of us, so my two older sisters went in first and they came back out about 5 minutes later to say that they were getting daddy ready to go back down to surgery. The artery that they had done the angioplasty had collapsed and they had to redo it. Plus, they had to stop the internal bleeding. They think that one of the arteries accidentally got knicked while they were doing the first angioplasty. The doctor said that sometimes that will happen.
Anyway, they got us all to stand out in the hall so that daddy could see everybody as he was being wheeled to surgery. He had a big smile on his face when he saw his four daughters, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren lined up to tell him that we loved him. I heard the doctor tell him that he had his whole team here rooting for him.
We went home to get mama and then went back to the hospital. It took about three hours for the surgery this time, and the doctor is hopeful that daddy's kidney will start functioning again. I got to visit with daddy for a little while and he seemed in pretty good spirits, even though he was very tired. We left so that he could get some rest. Oh, he did say that he was hungry, but of course he can't have any food yet. He hasn't eaten anything since Tuesday morning!!!
We will know alot more tomorrow. I am just praying that this surgery is the last that daddy will have to have. He wants to go home so bad!!! And of course mama misses him!!!
Thanks for listening!!! It helps to know that I have friends out there praying for daddy. Thank you EVERYBODY!!!

Love,
Kay

Kate and all,
Thank you so much for thinking of my dad, but I guess that I was a little too optimistic yesterday. This morning my sister called me and told me that daddy couldn't keep anything in his stomach last night and they found blood in his urine. She said that they were moving him to ICU and were going to give him something to make him sleep, so I shouldn't come to the hospital. I told her to call me if he was moved out of ICU, so that I could come and see him. Just a little while ago, my sister called again and said that daddy's kidneys have shut down. The doctor doesn't know why unless the surgeon accidentally cut his kidneys while he was doing the operation. I am going to be at the hospital tomorrow at 9:00 A.M. so that I can see him. I will keep y'all updated. Thanks again for all of the prayers. It means so much to me. A friend of mine asked me specifically for his name so that he could be added to her prayer list, so if anybody does have a prayer list at church, then his name is Jerry McDonald. Thanks gang!!!

Love,
Kay

Hi Kay - this is my first journey into Mohicanland in the last couple of days. I missed this post of yours and so didn't get my prayers and good wishes and positive vibes winging off to you and your dad!! But you KNOW I would have, had I seen your post sooner!

However, I'm thrilled to hear that everything went so well and that your Dad got through his procedure without any problems! THAT'S THE BEST NEWS!!!

I'm sure it's been a terribly stressful day. But - you can breathe easy again!! Now... go relax a little and just concentrate on getting your Dad up on his feet and back to his normal routine.

I'm pleased that all is well for you all tonight... *happy sigh*,,,

Love,
Kate
for your Dad in hospital... (Sorry but... Rich doesn't do 'bunches' in that there smiley list! )

Thanks everybody for the thoughts and prayers. I went to see daddy today and he is doing just fine!!! By the way my sister talked, they were going to have to operate on his kidneys, but that wasn't what he went in for. One of the arteries going to his kidneys was just about closed up, so they had to do an angioplasty. (hope that I spelled that right)
They say that his kidneys are just fine. It doesn't matter that they are joined together. They have been that way for 75 years, so they don't want to mess with the kidneys if they are working fine. Anyway, I just want to say "THANK YOU" again!!!

Fitz,
Daddy is in Eisenhower Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Ga. He doesn't live far away from me, about 30 miles. But he could live 300 miles away and I would still be there for him. Not that I'm biased or anything, but I think that he's the best dad in the world.

Love,
Kay

Which hospital is he in? I am assuming he is in the same area in which you live.
