Posted - February 01 2005 : 12:24:32 AM Well folks, there is another MohicanLander in need of more thoughts and prayers again. Dana Steckler used to be a regular on the old Mohican Board. She is the one that first brought us "WooHoo", the phrase we see so often on here during times of good news and celebrations. Unfortunately, Dana has not had good news lately regarding her fight with breast cancer. She recently learned that there are some new lesions in her lungs and is undergoing more chemotherapy.
I have Dana's permission to let everyone know how she is doing. Jayne says she has strong spiritual support and is determined to get past this last bump in the road. Those of you that remember Dana (she attended the 2000 Gathering) will remember that she was the embodiment of Mohican enthusiasm. I know some folks prefer to address these issues in a more private way, but I know first hand what good Mohican prayers can do, so please add Dana to your thoughts as you read this and as we continue to think of Joyce's Gary.

Well, I'm glad I posted it if only 'cause it helped to encourage you to make a post!! |

Posted - February 07 2005 : 02:17:15 AM Oh Clabert was most DEFINITELY the ringleader (as with so many things!), but Dana had considerable involvement in the evolvement!

Greetings to all!
Yes, that 2000 Gathering was a hoot! Dana & I had just met during the fall - right here on the board - surprised that we lived just a few miles away. Now, I know that Dana was originator of the Woo-hoo era. But all this time I thought it was Clabert who was responsible for that unique pronunciation of "Dammmmiiiiiit" (borrowed spelling - thanks, Adele). So that was Dana's doing, too??
I talked with Dana the other day. She's determined as ever and plowing ahead with treatments and all that entails, plus working right along. If all goes as planned, I'll be having dinner with her this Wednesday. I will definitely pass along your good wishes! Thanks for the post, GG.
I don't think Dana has much time to spend on the computer, so if anyone wants to send her "snail-mail" greetings let me know in a private message. She would LOVE to hear from ya all!

Posted - February 06 2005 : 08:59:32 AM Diana,
Thanks for posting that update, even though it's crushing news.
For those who missed out on the opportunity of knowing Dana, she is one of those people with this never-ending vitality and enthusiasm that is entirely infectious. Dana and I both discovered Mohicanland around the same time, and were both newbies at Gathering 2000 and shared a cabin with Marcia, Kate and several other unplanned guests who just sorta moved in (looks at Ilse!). It was a very happy time in my life, and I think back on it regularly, always with a smile on my face.
Not only did she bring us the phrase "Woohoo" she was also involved in the deep philosophical discussion that brought us the immortal "Life's too short for blow drying", and the very usable..."DAMMMMMiiiiiiit". She was a prominent supporter of sleeping bags for three, she never laughed at my plaid pyjama/hiking sock/blanket outfit, and she was also my partner in crime when it came to the House of Hoo-Hah. She also put me up and put up with me when I invited myself to Indiana for a week. I love her.

Posted - February 02 2005 : 12:00:53 AM I haven't met Dana, but she is in my prayers. I hope that the chemo goes well for her. My daughter-in-law has to have chemo and she is handling it pretty well. She just gets a little tired, so I hope that Dana handles it well too. Diana, please let Dana know that special prayers are sent her way
Joyce, Just want to let you know that you and Gary have been and will always be in my prayers!!!

Posted - February 01 2005 : 7:59:36 PM Well, I don't know Dana at all. Not even from the other boards since that was before my time here. I wish I did, because she sounds like a truly neat and fun lady.
Dana, you have been added to my prayer list as well. I wish you all of the very best as you continue your battle. I can now honestly say that I know what you are going through. Hang on... |

Posted - February 01 2005 : 3:55:00 PM Damn, Red -- you never did return that Huron delivery boy to me, did you???!!! I figure by now you must've whittled his bones into toothpicks!!! And just as an aside, remember you can't beat Gnome Butter for curing the winter itch. I think I still have a can or two left behind the bar at Bumppo's.

Posted - February 01 2005 : 3:25:00 PM Diana, do pass on my prayers and good thoughts to Dana as well. I've never had the pleasure of meeting her face to face but from hearing all the stories she always has been someone I really wanted to meet. She's up there on the prayer list now too... ah, yes, earlier days...when the Red-Haired Lass exhausted herself serving squirrel fritters and whiskey sours to rowdy crowds at the tavern, when tiny little gnome clothes could constantly be found floating in her cistern water and when she had to evade the unwelcome advances of Dweebie Day Lewis and got in trouble for "kidnapping" the Huron Delivery Boy... as Archie and Edith used to sing on the beginning of "All in the Family..." "Those were the days...you knew who you were then..." |

Posted - February 01 2005 : 12:44:53 PM Gadge, please pass along my personal prayers and good wishes for Dana. She's always been a favorite of mine. Agree with you about the archived posts. Go back a little further and you'll see the genesis of Dweebie Day-Lewis and many other memorable characters! Those were great days.

Posted - February 01 2005 : 07:48:31 AM Thanks for posting that, Rich! I've always loved that picture of those crazies - it looks like they're smoking something illegal (just Ilse's handmade Dutchie cigs). It prompted Dana's hilarious post about "Posting Post-Gathering Pics Guidelines"(never smoking anything, only my good side - hers was "her right, our left" and only when holding tummy in, etc."
I looked for hours for Dana's post Gathering 2000 post, "I Remember...", but alas I could not find it. Unfortunately, it was also the year of the Gathering Hackers (the site was hacked mightily while we were all at the gathering) and over a month of posts were lost. It was one of the most creative, memorable posts ever. It was such a great time back then. All of the posts back then were so fun to go through - They included the introduction of the MacWilliam Chronicles (with a gallery of photos of the characters AND Steamy love letters from Seamus to the Dark-Haired Lass <<<fanning self just at the thought>>>), the Chinese Sales posts every morning, two Danas, two Dianas, Gnome and Doc M wars (hilarious ones), Ayesha, Huggy Thoughts, Trade Wars, a MohicanLand Calendar (what ever happened to that? Ilse?)and all the other usual suspects. For some hilarious reading, take the time to go look back over the Board Archives from the year 2000. Ahhhhhhhhhh!
