Check out your elf and hobbit name
My elven name was Gilraen Fefalas
And my Hobbit name was Pansy Overhill of Nobottle (Geez, I knew I was over the hill, but being without a bottle is an even sadder state of affairs!)
I think I like GG better! |

Posted - November 05 2004 : 7:16:57 PM Hey there, Rose! (Or should I say 'Órelindë Tinehtelë' AKA 'Goldie Bracegirdle of Hardbottle'. Note I have 'copied and pasted!')
THANKS for all that info!! I never even THOUGHT of 'copying and pasting' - DUH!!! But I'm going to have a go with that 'option' key, when I get a mo! There have been a couple of occasions when I've needed to use accents - but didn't know where to find them! I kept thinking that one day, I'd check it out but somehow I always forgot and then I'd find I needed the accents - and STILL didn't know where they were on the keyboard!! So... know that I appreciate your help!
Well, I've always been a PC user. No particular reason in the first instance, except that being new to PC's then, I reckoned I needed the most user friendly one available!! Since learning to find my way around the computer, I've just always stuck to what I know. HOWSEVER - I DO think that 'Mac's' are VERY PRETTY TO LOOK AT, with their clear casings!
Christina, 'Rosie Posie Tighfield of Tookbank' is the most FABULOUS name - and is JUST PERFECT for YOU!!!
Love, Kate. AKA Tári Eärfalas AKA Tigerlily Sandydowns

Posted - November 05 2004 : 5:22:34 PM Kate, I don't know how the others did it, but I simply highlighted the name that appeared on the Hobbit and Elvish website, told my computer to COPY it, clicked into the reply box and told my computer to PASTE it. There are keystrokes that can be used, but because I have a Mac, they don't always work on PC-generated websites. The Copy and Paste method works most of the time... click and hold and drag across the word.
If you need this for other things down the road, say the accent on an "e" like in resumé, try typing the "e" while holding down your Option key, then typing it again.... usually that will make it appear with the accent, though this isn't called an accent in this case... I just can't remember the term for it.
Have fun with it. The option key makes a lot of the keys do things you never guessed would happen. I know PCs do it in a similar way to Macs because ever since the beginning with the first personal computer (which was a Macintosh, by the way), PCs have tried to emulate the Macs, which started out a lot more user-friendly. I have been told by several PC users that the PCs are now MORE user-friendly than Macs, AND less expensive. I believe that, but my industry (graphic design) uses Macintosh most of the time, and I am a die-hard Mac-Addict!

Posted - November 05 2004 : 11:34:21 AM Hehehehee... this is BRILLIANT!!
Well, GG., I don't know about YOU being 'Over the hill' but I DO know that I'm older than you so - I must be WAAAAAAY over the hill!!!!
Surprisingly enough (and THANKFULLY!) this is not recognised in the land of Hobbits, where they call me 'Tigerlily Sandydowns'! When I am cavorting with the Elves, though, I am 'Tari Earfalas' (though if using my full given name, I am 'Alasse Earfalas' (Alasse? As in 'A lassie'? Seems very appropriate for a Scots lady! ).
It seems that I have a right to join your illustrious family of 'Burrows' and 'Deepdelvers', Elrohir Saralonda (aka Drogo Burrows), for it seems that I too am described by my mode of 'downing' a little 'fruit of the vine'!
Kay, it seems we could be related!!! My granddaughter, Morgan's name is Inwe Ancalimon! I'd LOVE to know how THAT happened! For I'm thinking my daughter hasn't been to America in a couple of years! HOWSEVER, we will just accept that many people have the same last name...
Thanks for the bit fun, GG! Love, Kate AKA Tari Earfalas AKA Tigerlily Sandydowns
PS - Sgt. or Kay... I've just GOT to know, if you'd be so kind! How do you get the accents up on your names??? I've often wondered, because I don't have those on my keyboard and I needed to use them once...

I may very well be, if not by blood then by spirit (or spirits)

I am a big-time LOTR fan, going back to my pre-pubesence when I first read Tolkien. It was his works that got me into RPG (That's Role Playing Games, not Rocket Propelled Grenades... that came later, during a different chapter of my life), like Dungeons and Dragons. I still have some of the first generation Gary Gygax stuff (circa 1979), safely tucked away where I occasionally still look them over. I used to love playing that game, it was so fun to escape the mundane into a world where honor was defended with cold steel and anything was possible. There are times, when I would still love to play it today, but I do believe I would have trouble finding a playgroup around my age. Oh well, I guess that is part of the reason I ended up in reenacting...
Although, Elrohir Sáralondë, sounds more like an adventurer's name and it does have flash; I fancy myself to look more like a Drogo Burrows.

LOTR (the movie) was certainly a dream come true for those of us who read and loved the books, and it's an honor to have names based on them, although I don't know how the man behind the name generator ciphers them. However, it all sounds good to me! |
