I don't know if everyone in Mohicanland is familiar with the magazine Early American Life (formerly Early American Homes), but I was so pleased with the October issue that I wanted to mention it for those who haven't seen it. Here's the website: http://www.ealonline.com

The October issue has articles on early kitchen equipment, pewter tankards, colonial taverns and brewing methods (including George Washington's recipe for beer), and, best of all, Hart Square, NC, a privately owned collection of dozens of log buildings (1782-1873) that have been moved to a location near Hickory, NC, and beautifully restored, to judge from the photos. (I thought this would be a great place to visit on the way to or from the next Gathering, until I read that it's only open to the public one day a year -- 4th SAturday in October -- and then only for the first 3,000 visitors!) As informative as the articles are, I have to admit that I subscribe to this magazine for the photos. For those of us who love colonial things but can't afford to surround ourselves with them just yet, the photos (including those in the ads) provide a wonderful way to dream. I know that many of us already subscribe to more magazines than we can manage to keep up with, but if you have room for one more, this one is definitely worth it.

I, too, subscribe to this magazine, and eagerly look forward to each issue. Excellent publication! And I agree with you, Bookworm, that it is neat to just sit and drool over the photos before I even begin to read it.

One of my favorite mags! I love 18th-19th century architecture, so I appreciate the photos and blueprints of the historic houses. And I dream of owning one someday. All the early american folk art is great too.
