Posted - April 04 2004 : 10:00:55 AM "Cow Parade" has come to the Harrisburg, PA, area! This is a public art project that involves life-size fiberglass cow statues, sponsored by local businesses and organizations and painted by local artists, that are put on display around Harrisburg and several other towns for a while, then are auctioned off, with the proceeds benefiting local arts organizations and charities. Larger cities around the world have sponsored this event (currently Prague and Tokyo, I think), and Harrisburg was initially considered too small, but local enthusiasm was so strong that the cows came here too. Sounds silly, but when I'm driving along Front Street on a rainy day, headed for the office, and suddenly there before me is a brightly painted cow...well, the day just looks better! Here's the website: http://harrisburg.cowparade.net/ Mohicanlanders might find this cow especially interesting: http://harrisburg.cowparade.net/cow/detail/1823 |
