Posted - April 23 2017 : 01:07:15 AM In my never-ending quest to find quality television programming - and, mostly due to the recommendations of 3 Mohicans-friends - I think I've found me a winner!!
Outlander on Starz.
If you like a unique story, told with extraordinary care ... if you like material set in times of yore ... if the mere sound of mournful Scottish pipes causes you to choke-up ... if you enjoy beautiful scenery, sets, costumes ... if you fancy a touch of the mystical ... if you appreciate attention to detail ... if you just love a great cast - even though you may never heard of anyone in this ... if you can appreciate harsh realities, beautiful love stories, a touch of gore ... and even IF you have no idea what the Jacobite Rebellion was ... you can [and will] thoroughly gorge yourself on this EPIC presentation.
Now, that said, I have only watched the first 7 episodes of the first season - maybe my opinion will shift - but I somehow doubt it. This is pretty darn near perfection. I will not go into details to avoid spoilers - take a glimpse at this trailer for Season 1. It barely touches on it.
If I have a beef, it is with the love [sex] scenes - though very artfully done, I am old-school traditional in this regard [Prude? Not really.] ... I just feel a bit like a voyeur when watching anything that is ordinarily private in real life.
One other thing, I wanted to slap the lead character upside the head a few times in the early episodes - does that thought get me banned from Facebook? - maybe you'll feel the same ... but, she comes around in episodes 5 & 6 and begins to appreciate the world, people, and plights that surround her. Alrighty then ... enjoy ... if you don't have access to STARZ, get it. Or purchase the DVD for a few dollars. You will not regret it! **** No refunds ... FYI: Season 2 is done, and they have been signed up for a 3rd & 4th season ... so, you can afford to invest yourself in the show.
A cut above!

Posted - April 24 2017 : 4:56:25 PM Not sure, Fitz. OH, someone mention it is on Amazon Prime. You could just break down and turn over some wampum for a set of disks. It really is very, very good [though I know you'll find the buttons all wrong! As I said, I am very early into the series ... I hope that it maintains its excellence. More often than not, shows might start out with a bang and then they lose their direction ... they never figured out the end-game. Since this is based [very well, I have heard] on a series of books, that pitfall should be easy to avoid. |

Posted - April 24 2017 : 08:51:59 AM I have heard a lot about this via Facebook and WW. I don't get STARZ. Any chance this is available elsewhere, like Bittorrent? |
