Anyone see this? It's actually been out there over a decade [2000? - I believe]. Pretty good movie - not great, but worth a view and listen.

It appears to take place about 1910 in the western North Carolina mountains. It stars Aidan Quinn and a woman I was not familiar with, Janet McTeer, who put in a fantastic performance. Anyway - taking out the lesbian sub-plot - anyone interested in Mountain culture will love this. A superb collection of old timey songs are performed throughout and the scenery, of course, is lush.

One thing I wanted to mention ... I am almost positive that the Green Knob Overlook was used as a location. About midway through the film there is a camera pan across a vista. I instantly recognized it. Looked exactly like video I have shot there.

This is so weird, Rich...I just--and I mean just--within the last week--came across this movie reading one of those "best of" movie lists. It only concerned the music--with the humming lady being a part of it, now I know why--but now there's the LOTM scenery, too. I may just have to check it out....

I loved this movie, too. There's a scene with (if I remember correctly, it's been a while) a wagon on a path through the woods, and when I saw it I was certain that exact location was used in LOTM.

And there's another LOTM connection as well: The consultant for the old-time music, and one of the musicians in the band that played for the barn dance, was Sheila Kay Adams, LOTM's "humming woman."

Yes, I have seen this one. I borrowed it from Netflix about a year ago, and I enjoyed it so much that I watched it twice before I returned it.

I really enjoyed the music and singing, and it was a treat to see and hear the young (14 yrs old) Emmy Rossum, who later starred in the movie Phantom of the Opera.

And yes... the scenery is gorgeous!
