Posted - September 26 2010 : 10:26:54 AM Watched this - the Russell Crowe/Cate Blanchett version - last night on DVD.
It was not great, but enjoyable - I love Blanchett - definitely a different Robin Hood than we are used to from Erroll Flynn/Disney/Kevin Costner. No tights, for one ...
This is actually a prequel to the "fairy tale" versions ... It is a more historical telling of events of the day that lead up to Robin Longstride's mythical legend as Robin HOOD. I found myself thinking, "OH! So, that's what had happened!!" Pretty neat. Or, it could be considered Gladiator II!
As a kid, I spent hours running through the neighborhood with my brother and friends - armed with plastic swords - recreating Robin Hood. Barbara Meltzer - God Bless Her - was Maid Marian. The story has a warm spot within me. |
