Posted - April 24 2009 : 4:11:41 PM Hi All:
I just recently learned that they are in the midst of producing a new version of EMMA. I am very pleased to say that Jodhi May will be playing the part of Miss Taylor/Mrs. Weston.
Can't wait! I love Jane Austen dramas.

Posted - April 30 2009 : 9:34:44 PM Loved the website Red!!! Just in case some of y'all (Obi) didn't go to the website, these are the reasons that I would only need CN at a bar fight. Even though this isn't the bar fight thread. How can I work Emma in here??? Okay, CN is Emma's pick too. Red, thanks for the laugh!!!

How about a mini-series of JA's final completed novel Persuasion, starring Chuck Norris as Frederick Wentworth?
Hah! That would be hilarious! Frederick Wentworth roundhouse kicking his way into the heart of the humble Anne Elliot. Maybe the part of Anne's cousin, Mr. Elliot (Wentworth's "rival"), could be played by another over-the-hill action star, like Steven Segal. Ooh, and they could even have an 80's-karate-movie-style slugfest to win her hand. Hah!
Okay, sorry. Now back to the topic at hand. A new Emma with Jodhi May? Sounds promising. It would have to be pretty good to outdo the one with Kate Beckinsale, though. That one sticks pretty close to the novel, I think. I'd watch it, even without kung fu or zombies. |

Posted - April 30 2009 : 10:03:26 AM I don't know exactly where they are in the production schedule. I do know this much that they are filming in Chilham and that it is a BBC production.
I also saw some pictures of Jodhi and Romola in costume. I read a comment that Jodhi looks a lot like Princess Anne.
My guess is that EMMA will air in the UK in the fall and in the US in late winter or spring on PBS. We shall see.

Posted - April 30 2009 : 08:46:53 AM Honestly, Kaylynn, I do agree with you; the producer would need to cast someone who could actually act.
Chuck Norris: a legend in his own mind.
Obi, Well, that could be said for half of Hollywood. BUT..... to get back on SUBJECT..... I would love to see a new version of Emma, even if it is a mini series and we have to wait a little while for it to get over here!!!

Posted - April 29 2009 : 8:32:19 PM Winglo and Obi, I don't think that Chuck really cares if any actress wants to play opposite him as long as he has his very lovely wife at home.

BTW Obi, I wouldn't go as far as casting Chuck in Persuasion.

Posted - April 29 2009 : 1:52:22 PM The only trouble is you wouldn't be able to find an actress who would be willing to portray a character who wants a relationship with Chuck Norris! Yuck! |

Posted - April 28 2009 : 10:05:22 AM It appears that Miss Austen was VERY familiar with HORRID novels of her day. In NORTHANGER ABBEY there are frequent references to Mrs. Radcliffe's works such as THE MYSTERIES OF UDOLPHO or THE MONK. Don't think they contain zombies but you might have to watch out for vampires.

Posted - April 27 2009 : 7:54:35 PM Jane Austen? I'd only watch something from Jane Austen if it had ZOMBIES!
Okay Obi....... those are fightin' words!!! I'll let you get away with putting down Chuck, but don't you dare say anything bad about Jane Austen and her works!!!!! She was one of the very best!!! I am very mild mannered, but if you say bad things about her, then who knows what will happen!!!
Love, Kay

Posted - April 26 2009 : 4:42:23 PM A little online search tells me that this is going to be a TV mini-series in the UK. The role of Emma will be played by Romola Garai, who was the gorgeous redheaded woman who captured the heart of William Wilberforce in "Amazing Grace."
Wonder when it will make it across the pond? |

Posted - April 24 2009 : 8:10:04 PM A new Emma! That will be great. Although it seems like someone is always producing a new Jane Austen of some sort or another. I hope they do it justice. |
