Posted - November 17 2007 : 3:20:03 PM With LOTM being one of my favorite soundtracks, it got me thinking of movies that I've seen where the soundtrack was so bad it totally wreaked the movie. For me it was the music for Highlander which was done by Queen. I like Queen, but it just didn't seem to fit with the movie and for me, was very distracting. I loved the movie, but hated the music.
What movie do you think was ruined by the music? |

Posted - November 18 2007 : 12:51:57 PM I thought of one whilst at Mass this morning (I know should be thinking Godly thoughts not about movies but was during the Homily and to be honest I got a tad bored). Well the original "Terminator" had a sucky soundtrack. At the time I thought it was okay, very 80's but now, if I see the movie and hear the soundtrack, well it sounds just awful. |

Posted - November 18 2007 : 09:31:57 AM Caitlin, I agree with you completely about "Marie Antoinette." I made one of my rare trips, with great expectations, to the theater to see that, and when the music began with the opening credits, I immediately knew I was in trouble. That soundtrack totally ruined that movie for me. It was supposed to be a very serious... shall we say... "study" of the kind of woman and queen Marie Antoinette was, and the modern music was totally jarring. Even the eye-candy of the sets and costumes were ruined for me. I will never watch it again.
Now on the other hand, "A Knight's Tale" was supposed to be campy and very, very tongue-in-cheek, so I thought the music chosen for it was great. I fully appreciated the humor in it, and I enjoy rewatching that one.
We will, we will rock you! |

Posted - November 18 2007 : 06:52:30 AM In this modern age of film-making, usually if the music is no good, neither is the movie ... so, I can't think of any poor soundtracks because I've not seen the movie!! Most great films have equally superior soundtracks --- seem to go hand-in-hand. |

Oh, I got one. Ever seen "A Knight's Tale" with Heath Ledger. Good movie but the songs they had with that movie were ridiculous! Kinda killed the movie for me. I guess some people like that twist but not me.
I never even bothered to watch the rest of that one because of the music. Kinda reminds me of Marie Antionette with Kirsten Dunst.
Well, though the entire movie wasn't ruined, my husband and I hated the dance scene in the last Harry Potter movie.

Yes! That was another one where the music ruined the movie. |

Posted - November 17 2007 : 4:16:21 PM I have to agree, I know that there have been several movies that I have seen where the soundtrack is irritating to say the least, but I can't think of one right now. Maybe I pushed them out of my mind! |

Posted - November 17 2007 : 4:08:58 PM Great question and I wish I had an answer to it but I just can't think of any movie right now that I watched and thought "gee that music sucks". I will have to ponder on this one for a while and come back with an answer. |
