Well I went to see this one yesterday with my youngest boy as we are big "Potter" fans (eagerly awaiting the final book coming out on the 21st). It was definitely "darker" like they said in all the reviews. Not many giggles here but I really enjoyed it as I did all the previous movies. Those kids sure have "grown" and there is a sweet sweet moment with Harry's "first kiss". Brought a smile to my face. Poor Harry has a lot of issues to deal with in this one but well worth seeing. If you are a Potter fan then you don't need to be told to go see it. Only thing is I would have liked to have seen more Hagrid, Prof McGonagall and Snape in the movie, more teachers and more Dumbledore but other than that, great job.

So any other big Potter fans here in Mohicanland????

Way to go LLOF. I, like most folks, have all the books and own all the DVD's and have a Harry Potter board game and a PS2 game which my sons played (I even tried). I know there is a poster or two around someplace. My oldest boy used to have them up on his wall when he was younger (now almost 15 so no longer). What's not to love about Potter. I recently watched all the movies in order night after night with my youngest two kids and just got through watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in HD on one of the HD channels. Just recently got a big screen High Def TV and subscribed to the High Def service. If you ever want to talk Potter I am your person. Oh, I am sure you have read the last book by now. Care to discuss?
Little Lady of Fire Posted - August 26 2007 : 6:44:21 PM
Harry Potter. What can I not say. Way too much no idea who hasn't read the book. Lets say there was only one scene where I cried like a baby. Was not near the end, was during the battle. Lets just say my best friends hates me because I have supported this character all along.

And if you need more proof of how big of an HP fan I am I was Hermoine one halloween. I have 4 posters, 1 towel, book ends, every single book, every single movie, the PS2 Game Quidditch, I am a master at the card game quidditch, ummmmmmmmmm do I need to continue?

Or could be the look Crockett had when he 1st laid eyes on Santa Anna (LOL). Like your box at the bottom on David Crockett. His motto was the 1st scrimshaw I ever did on my 1st powder horn. Might mention that Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter 1st aired on my birthday, Dec. 14th, 1954. Heck I didn't care about a birthday, I saw Davy Crockett!!!! You'll see me and my buddy 'Muggs' there

Here's a photo of me as I dressed up as a Death Eater for the premiere of The Order of the Phoenix. I was one of the first to view the film in Florida. So, that was pretty cool.

How very strange...

BTW, shouldn't "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" really take place in Arizona?
Light of the Moon Posted - July 17 2007 : 11:58:40 AM
Nope. No web problems here, Red.

I can't wait to see the next one!
I know this sounds strange to most but I can't read the book until after I've seen the movie. That way the movie's got some suspense up until the end and I don't find myself saying, "Oh, they left out the best part!"
See, if I read the book after I can say, "Hey the book was better although I liked the movie."

Sorry...tangent!

I thought Richard Harris was the perfect Dumbledore. Gambon is trying, but he seems almost too harsh to me. I don't know. Just know I really don't like him in the role. I think movie 6 will be a challenge with him and Potter throughout most of it. Not sure how that one will go.

I agree! My husband is the opposite, though. He hated Richard Harris as Dumbledore and thinks Michael Gambon is "cool." But my husband is weird, as I feel perfectly qualified in saying.

I liked Michael Gambon in Gosford Park and Layer Cake, but he's no Dumbledore, to me anyway. Then again I haven't read any of the books, so mabe I'm not such a good judge of Dumbledore-ness.

Totally random and not to hijack the thread: Has anyone else been having trouble with this site lately? For the past 3 or 4 days my internet freezes every time I type in the web address for this site and this site ONLY. Everything else works just fine. This is the first time I've been able to log on in a few days. Grrrr....

Anyways, sorry. Back to Harry Potter. I liked the most recent movie OK, but thought it flagged a bit in the middle. There was definitely some action needed by the time the wizards' duel came around. Overall good, though.

Well Richard Harris was the original Dumbledore and it is always difficult when someone else has to take over a role like Gambon had to. Can you imagine anyone else playing Snape, definitely not.

I too really liked Luna Lovegood and thought her and Harry would have made a good team, both being "different" in many ways to the other kids. Dolores Umbridge was a such a devil, you just had to dislike her. Still, the movies are never as good as the books since they leave stuff out. Kreacher, the old house elf at the house of Black for instance, was in the book much more and they left out the Quidditch stuff with Ron. Poor Ron did not get too much screen time either.

5 days until "The Deathly Hallows" can hardly wait. I do hope Harry survives.

Didn't Michael Gambon play Dumbledore in a previous episode? I believe he did - Goblet of Fire maybe?
He's good but I'll agree with you, Obi. He's not Richard Harris.

I really enjoyed the movie too, especially the sequence in the Department of Mysteries. Have to agree with Obi; Imelda Staunton did a cracking job! The actress who played Luna Lovegood was also impressive. It's odd, or rather, I'm odd because whilst I can't wait for Book 7, sometimes I'm not sure if I want to know how it all ends. Anywho... 5 days to go...

Huge Harry Potter fan!!! I just finished up the book a few weeks ago and now I'm ready to see the movie. Can't wait!!!!!
Obediah Posted - July 15 2007 : 6:06:14 PM
Imelda Staunton is awesome as Delores Umbridge. Think of her as a smiling Magua. Personally I'm not too impressed with the actor who now plays Dumbledore. I could also do with less Hagrid...he just irritates me. But yes we need more Severus Snape...and oh boy will we get that in the next movie "...Half-Blood Prince!" Also I think we could have used more Draco Malfoy (and boy didn't the youngster who plays him grow up!).

I was actually (and pleasantly) surprised at the quality of this movie, since "Order of the Phoenix" is probably my least favorite of the HP novels. My wife (who's not real big on HP) really enjoyed this too.

Ah well, just SIX more days to the final book!
