I have 3 little ones under the age of 10, but hear nightmare stories from friends who have teens.

I agree, one has to do thier best in raising them and lots of prayers to boot...

Hmmmm.... now, I wonder what PITA stands for....

LOL. My father use to do that to us when we were younger. Once he opened the door just as my bf was getting ready to kiss me goodnight. Awkward. He just stood there smiling and said, "Don't mind me. Carry on."

I got a handshake and a call you later which the guy never did! So I can relate with her on that note!

Sounds to me like you will do a good job Light. I try to do my best with my teens and hope for the best. Good kids but it is their dad who embarrasses them not me. My eldest, he always embarrasses her in front of her boyfriends. She likes to bring them over when he is not around.
Light of the Moon Posted - September 01 2007 : 12:53:29 PM
OH I know it's coming. Sooner than I hope too.
Yesterday I dropped my girls off at school and when I went to hug my 8yr old she walked away. I made her come back and asked where my hug was and she kinda' slumped over and muttered, "Not here, Mom."
Here was my response.

"Oh no you dinnit!" And I grabbed her, hugged her, and said super loud "I LOVE YOU, BABY DOLL!"

Her sister thought it was hysterical.
And to top that I was at the store and they were being obnoxious and I told them to stop it cause it was embarrassing me.
They said, "So."
"Okay, you asked for it." I said. Then I did a three-quarter shimmy walk through the rest of the store. They begged me to stop the entire time because people were looking and that I was embarrassing them.
After that they've been well behaved.

Granted handling younger kids is easier, I have several friends with teens and just seeing their situations - WHEW! I know it's coming, Irish. I do know that. The best I can do is raise them right and guide them through the harder parts of adolesence.

Irishgirl Posted - August 29 2007 : 4:23:49 PM
Just you wait Light. Yours are young and innocent yet. Wait 'til they become teens or "young adults" as they are called these days. Whole different "ball game". Boyfriends and girlfriends and the music they listen to amongst other things.
Light of the Moon Posted - August 29 2007 : 3:06:29 PM
Oh, the power we hold as parents!! Mu-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!
Irishgirl Posted - August 29 2007 : 10:30:23 AM
Sure I call my 3 year old baby, that's okay but Frances aka baby was supposed to be a teenager and her folks calling her "baby" in front of everyone. I should try that with my 16 year old girl, she would disown me. Can't say I'd blame her. T
Light of the Moon Posted - August 29 2007 : 10:13:18 AM
I call my wee ones baby or babe. They don't seem to mind...for now anyway!
Irishgirl Posted - August 28 2007 : 4:32:50 PM
Imagine letting your folks call you baby I meant not a "lover" that would be okay.
Irishgirl Posted - August 28 2007 : 4:30:28 PM
Hey I watched DD on the telly a couple of nights ago and still enjoyed it. Johnny Castle is great in this one. That man can sure dance. They should have him on "Dancing with the Stars" which starts its new Season on the 24 September if memory serves me correct. He would do great (hopefully).

I'll admit it does have some cheesy lines and imagine letting anyone call you "baby" yuck. Still it is a good one IMHO. I used to have a "thing" for Mr Swayze.

Yes, Obi I misunderstood your post (sorry). Liam Neeson is great with accents but then a lot of actors are. It is their business after all.
Obediah Posted - May 09 2007 : 1:01:59 PM
Irish, have you seen Next of Kin? In it, Liam Neeson speaks with a wonderful Appalachian accent, sounding exactly like he really was from the hills of eastern Kentucky. (Just in case I didn't make myself clear in my previous post.)

And speaking of LN, didn't he play Michael Collins a few years back? Interesting movie, but less entertaining than Braveheart and about as inaccurate, historically.

Yes folks, this thread has been hijacked! Am I sorry? What do you think...
Irishgirl Posted - May 09 2007 : 09:21:30 AM
Hear him in interviews Obi and it is quite obvious. Actually he and I come from the same neck of the woods. I lived "next door" to him practically when a kid in Northern Ireland. It is a small place and his town was not far from where I lived. Used to go there quite regularly actually.

As for PS looking old. Have not seen him in too much lately so can't really comment but it happens to us all doesn't it.
Obediah Posted - May 09 2007 : 01:05:54 AM
Oh yeah, "Next of Kin" was pretty cool, too. But the scene-stealer in that flick was Briar, PS's character's brother. That was the first time I'd ever seen Liam Neeson. Who knew this hillbilly-sounding character was really an Irishman?

BTW, isn't PS look old now?

Has anybody seen a movie called "11:14"? Patrick Swayze shows up as a white trashy-type guy who just can't believe that his teenage daughter is a total . . . ummmm, let's just say she REALLY likes boys. I wouldn't recommend the movie unless you like films along the lines of "Memento," where you're constantly piecing together the storyline. Odd movie, but it was kinda funny to see Swayze show up in it.

On the subject of "Dirty Dancing," I was totally in love with Johnny Castle when I was in 6th grade. I recently watched the movie again and man! was it ever cheezy! I think my favorite scene has to be when Johnny finds out that his keys are locked in the car and proceeds to yank a pole out of the ground and break his own window, all to the tune of "This Overload." I know he's supposed to look like a total badass in that scene, but really: imagine when he has to go get the window fixed later. Not so badass after all. Just kind of ridiculous!

Also, "No one puts Baby in a corner" is pretty great too.

I really liked Black Dog. But, hey, Meat Loaf & Randy Travis pretty much made the movie work. I thought it was great the Randy Travis' character in the movie couldn't sing a lick!

Whoopie Goldberg too! Her outfits on that film were out of this world!

Susquesus,
I have never seen "Donnie Darko" but my all time favorite Swayze movie is "Ghost" I think that he and Demi were just perfect for that movie.

Love,
Kay
susquesus Posted - May 04 2007 : 12:22:02 AM
Patrick Swayze was excellent in Donnie Darko as the motivational speaker with a closet kiddie-porn habit. That's my vote for best recent Swayze effort- 2001 I think.

I loved the 80's because that is when my baby boy was born (12/6/83). Yep, the 80's were very good to me.

Love,
Kay

Ya' know. I got to thinkin' if there was anything good that I could say about the late 80's (to the early 90's) and I suddenly realized there were a few...

#1 Philip Lewis
#2 Bon Jovi
#3 Bret Michaels

Dear God, why can't I have more than one man?!

Light of the Moon Posted - May 01 2007 : 3:04:44 PM
Yeah, if you ever cruise around the board you'll see that I'm not a biggie on them(80's).
I loved the 60's clothing and the 70's were pretty cool too. I even liked the way the year 2000 put a modern twist on them.
Hopefully, they'll do that to the newest styles and maybe I'll like them a bit more.
But one thing I know for sure. Unless you're paying me a big amount of money you will not get me in stirrups again.
Now, body suits? I've never stopped liking them. In fact if you want some really cool ones hit the dance wear catalogs, they have 'em by the 100's and for a good price too.
Wear it with a cute pair of jeans or metallic mid-thigh skirt with a chain belt and pumps/sneaker heels and it looks pretty neat.

Damn modeling!!! They'll wanna' slap all of us into lace cuff spandex and stirrups!

WHAT? Not like the 80's?? Well, I agree the clothes were a little weird (then when aren't they?) but you could at least save some money by just hitting your local thrift shop. I loved the music and the great cheesy movies such as "Valley Girl" and "Breakfast Club". And you can't forget those T&A ski movies like "Ski School". Hey, you know, I think I even own a copy of that one...I have it here somewhere (rummaging through the dust...)
