Posted - March 03 2007 : 1:26:18 PM This technically isn't a movie, but rather a new series on TV.
If any of you get the BBC America Network, you may want to tune in tonight, Saturday March 3rd at 9 PM Eastern time. They are beginning a new series titled "Robin Hood." If, like me, you are a fan of the whole Robin Hood legend, this looks like it could be a good one. A bit quirky, perhaps, but good.
You can go here BBC America to take a look. |

Posted - March 20 2007 : 4:03:19 PM I watched the first episode and thought that there was some potential with the series and would not mind watching more. BBC has churned out at least one good series, in particular, the non-stop action packed British version of 24 (or was it the other way around?) - MI-5 / Spooks. |

This is totally random, but I have an archaeologist friend who spends every summer working at/near Hadrian's Wall. I'm hoping to join her dig one summer, if I can ever afford it!
More on topic : I agree, too, about the other actors in the Kevin Costner "Robin Hood." Alan Rickman, especially, who's great in just about anything!
Netflix is now advertising the new BBC "Robin Hood" series, so maybe that means I'll get to watch it when it comes out on DVD. That probably won't be for a long time yet, but I'm used to it by now. Living with no cable TV means missing out on a lot of stuff. I just keep telling myself that I get to watch it all commercial free . . . eventually! |

Posted - March 06 2007 : 2:07:32 PM The 'Robin Hood' series started here last autumn and it finished around Christmas time. It was predictable at times but still good. Obviously it was such a chore to watch considering people like Ricahrd Armitage as Guy of Gisbourne were in it!

'Robin Hood Men In Tights'! Haven't seen that in ages, lol, who didn't like Cary Elwes as Westley in 'The Princess Bride'. 'As you wish'...
I guess I like 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves' because it features Hadrian's Wall. When you're out walking along the wall and you get to the tree, you can still hear people saying 'that's Robin Hood's tree'. I agree WW, the other actors more than made up for Kevin Costner. For example, take Alan Rickman as the Sheriff... 'And call off Christmas'... |

Yeah, that wasn't one of Kevin's best performances. But oddly, I still enjoy watching that movie. I guess the storyline and the acting of others sort of makes up for Kevin's inability to fake a British accent.

Posted - March 05 2007 : 4:10:11 PM After carefull consideration I have decided that the new "Robin Hood" really is Bill and Ted's Excellent Sherwood Forrest Adventure.
At first I thought maybe Cheech and Chong, but they were funny. |

Hey! What about Kevin Costner?
Totally kidding! If ever there was an award for most boring Robin Hood.... |

Great Mel Brooks movie! But Cary is too pretty to make an effective "real" Robin Hood. |

Posted - March 05 2007 : 10:10:32 AM I wasn't able to watch all of it, or give it my undivided attention. (I should know better than to answer the phone when it rings during something I want to see on TV! But I do have very elderly parents......) But from what I saw, it seemed pretty well done. Yes, I had read that they have given it a bit of a modern twist in certain aspects, particularly in the dialogue. But, from what I could tell, it seems interesting.
The Robin Hood legend has one of my favorites, along with the Arthurian Legend, ever since I fell in love with Richard Green on TV as a young teen.

Posted - March 03 2007 : 10:16:36 PM Well, I don't know. He's sure not Errol Flynn. Looks like they tried to modernize it, and it's not a modern story. Sure not Rome, either. Now that one in good. They tried to bring first century BC Rome to life. But this one? Maybe it will get better. |
