quote: Robert Redford Thriller to Be Filmed in Asheville
POSTED: 6:49 a.m. EDT September 23, 2002
ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Robert Redford is in Asheville this week shooting his latest thriller.
"The Clearing" stars the Oscar-winner as a kidnapped business tycoon.
Much of the filming will take place in woods around Asheville, where Redford's character is being held prisoner.
The movie co-stars Helen Mirren, who was nominated last year for an Oscar for "Gosford Park," and Willem Dafoe, who played the Green Goblin in "Spider-Man."
Redford, who starred in such classics as "All The President's Men" and "The Sting," was spotted in Asheville last week, shaking hands with a fan.
Western North Carolina Film Commissioner Mary Nell Webb says filming in the area is expected to last about three weeks.
Previous movies shot in western North Carolina include "Hannibal," "Last of the Mohicans," "My Fellow Americans" and "28 Days."

Posted - September 26 2002 : 6:04:39 PM During the 3rd Gathering (2000) when everyone went to Biltmore, there was time to go on a carriage ride behind the estate. As I recall, the guide told me "Hannibal" was filmed in horse barn located just beyond the winery.

We could add "The Fugitive" & "Nell" to the list. Hmmm ... which of all these flicks really does the western parts of North Carolina justice? |

Posted - September 23 2002 : 2:59:59 PM I understand that parts of Hannibal were filmed at Biltmore, but don't know about other sites around Ashville.
