Last weekend, my dad bought Brokeback Mountain for me, knowing how much I'd been wanting to see it. I must say now that it is definitely one of the best movies I have ever seen. It moved me like no movie ever has (except LOTM). The performances (Heath Ledger and Jake Gylenhaal particularly) were the best I've seen in a long time. The movie really made me realize that love is love, no matter what. It kind of gets me upset about the Oscars and how it lost for best picture to Crash. I saw Crash and wasn't nearly as impressed as I was with Brokeback Mountain. All I have to say is that if you haven't seen it...SEE IT! It is probably the best 2 hours you could spend. Has anyone else seen this movie??

I actually liked the movie because it is really beautiful and sad. But i can't say i really loved it that much and i felt like something was missing there. Anyway it's worth seeing.

I didn't mean that YOU passed judgement, I just meant I have met a lot of people that write the movie off just because of the plot, you know what I mean? I didn't mean to direct it at anyone here. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh please, there are those who liked the movie and those of us who did not. We are happy you liked it and do not pass "judgement" on you because you did so please do not pass "judgement" on us, like there is something "wrong" with us just because we did not like it. Simple as that. I watched Big Eden which is a "gay themed" movie with a love story between men and I just loved it. Heck I even own it and watch it from time to time. I loved the two main characters in it and they are gay. BM just did not appeal to me at all.

Thanks for the support BW. The movie was definitely one of the saddest. It moved my entire family, even my father, who was very against seeing the movie. He watched it however and liked it to my surprise. Now, everytime I tell people about Brokeback Mountain and they give it that "look" my dad jumps in and says "No, it was a really good movie, but very sad." I just find it interesting that my father, who was so against it at first, turned out to enjoy it because he just took the time to see it and didn't make any judgements.

I'm with UL13. Crash was a good movie, Brokeback Mountain was a great one, and the saddest love story I've ever seen.

UL13 I agree with you in that you either love this movie or hate it although I would not say I hated it, it just did not appeal to me. Then again I was not the target audience for this movie. I know lots of people apparently loved it and to each his own. I have yet to see Crash the other movie you mentioned and when I do I may not like that one either. I am glad that you enjoyed it and I know I have found from personal experience that I have watched and really enjoyed a movie and other people I recommended it to did not like it. If we all thought the same the world would be a boring place. At least we can agree on this, we both loved LOTM and I for one will never tire of watching it and then there was the matter of that tall, dark, handsome Indian named Uncas. Who would not love that guy.

I understand your points. Heath Ledger's accent was difficult to understand, but I was able to make out what he said. I didn't think the aging was bad though, I thought they did make Ledger and Gylenhaal look older. I think with Brokeback Mountain, you either love it, or hate it. There really isn't much in between. I just found it amazing because it was something new. It was a story that had never been told before and I think it needs to be. Like I said before, love comes in all forms, no matter who you are and I think that is important to understand. I understand you still, Irishgirl, but I stand by what I've said before. It's one of the best movies I've ever seen and it definitely deserves a chance.

Okay UL13 I watched it Saturday night out of curiousity and sorry to disappoint you but I did not like it. Just was not the movie for me. I could go into details as to why I did not like it but I won't. Best just leave it at this that I did not enjoy this at all. I was ready to turn it off early on but decided to persevere and watch the whole movie in case it got better but alas it did not. Heath Ledger's accent was awful and he mumbled half the time making it hard to understand what he was saying. They also did not do a good job on the "ageing process". They needed better make-up in that department. Well glad you enjoyed it at least but just not for me.

I usually find the movies that have all the hype are not the best ones. It is the little unknown movies that turn out to be real gems.

As a side not, my teenage daughter watched it and enjoyed it but then again she has the hots for Jake Gyllenhall so that was probably why she liked it.

I have not seen it yet but certainly intend to now after you have spoken so highly about it. You have made me curious and once I see it, perhaps this weekend, I will be back on to discuss.
