I recently rented Andrew Lloyd Webber's version of Phantom of the Opera and WOW! Definitely one of the all time BEST movies I've ever seen. It's a very close second (almost tied) to LOTM. The singing, dancing, acting, was some of the best I've ever seen! I thought that Gerard Butler (who played The Phantom) was in one word; amazing! He had a voice that literally gave me chills and moved me to tears! I couldn't help but notice how attractive he was either, even with half of his face deformed, I still loved him! Emmy Rossum (Christine) had such a great voice! She, I think, is one of the most promising actresses out there. All the actors were great as well, but my favorite was The Phantom. Gerard Butler was perfect as him...I really couldn't imagine anyone else playing the role. I know that Christine falls in love with that Raoul guy...and I was like "what is she thinking?" I would have gone with the phantom! I mean, sure he had some major flaws, but he loved her so much, and THAT VOICE! The ending of that movie was just so heartbreaking. It's the only other movie besides LOTM that made me cry so badly that my dad actually had to calm me down! lol. Within two days of seeing the film, I bought it and purchased the soundtrack...and my friends and I have been watching it regularly! Has anyone else seen this movie? What are your thoughts on it? In my opinion, it's one of the best, most excellent movies EVER!

Wow! I only know Herbert Lom from the old Clouseau movies. Can't imagine him as the Phantom.

That said, the 2004 movie is actually the only version of the Phantom I've ever seen. I liked it, but it was definitely a one-time see for me. I'm not a fan of musicals because I get easily annoyed with the talking-singing-talking-singing transition. That's not to say that there aren't some beautiful songs in the Phantom, but I can't handle many short bursts of song thrown in the middle of dialogue.

I was very impressed with Emmy Rossum, though. She has a wonderful voice, especially to be so young. Gerard Butler was a great---and darn cute---Phantom, I thought. I just saw "300," and man-oh-man do I like him better after seeing that movie.

Can you believe this is the same guy? Take a look....

Fantastic movie! I recently saw the latest version and have to say that I was torn between the Phantom and Christine's little boyfriend! They were both very good looking. In the end I did not chose the Phantom....the whole stalker thing would have definitely gotten on my nerves if I were her! Although it was a good movie...it does not compare to the LOTM for me. Sorry!

The Musical is in my top 5, and the movie is great. It can be difficult to make the transition from stage to film, but this time it was done well.

This is my 11 year-old granddaughter's favorite movie; she even played music from it at her last piano recital! Oh wait a minute, there is one movie she likes even better: Doom!. Of course, they a so similar! Let's hope Karl Urban's choice of parts to play starts improving...hopefully, Pathfinder will be closer to the LOTR end of the scale than Riddick or Doom.

Again, soz for searching for an old post. I love this movie too so hence had to see what had been said on the Mohican board.

As much as I think the Phantom is great, *swoons when he sings 'The Music of the Night'*, for me, he is just too possessive. While I agree that Uncas is a total hottie, the Phantom just doesn't do it for me.

You have to feel for Raoul, poor boy, he's loved Christine since childhood and then when their acquaintance is rekindled she is hypnotised by the Phantom! Yet still he fights to save her, and even offers to die for her... it's just too sad .

Even after all the drama, and conflicting emotions for the Phantom and then Raoul and then the Phantom and then Raoul and then the Phantom when Minnie Driver sings the 'Learn to be lonely' song on the credits, it's still a fab movie with a great soundtrack to sing along to...

Masquerade, paper faces on parade...

Wade, Wade, Wade...yes, I love Gerard Butler, but I could never abandon my Mohican/Uncas ways! lol. They're two completely different men whom are both very attractive...what's a girl to do?

Hey Nora.

Yep, I enjoyed the film. But I'm not as obsessed as you. lol She's confessed her love for Gerard Butler over AIM...and she has forgotten her Mohican/ Uncas ways!

But I really liked the film. I saw it in theatres with almost every other Phantom film theres' been. Including the one Joyce mentioned...with Herbert Lom. Saw the one with Claude Raines and ofcourse the original. Just something about the story that is really good, but also very sad as Nora details.

Hi Nora,

I like this musical very much. I did go to see the movie and enjoyed it a lot. I, too, thought that Emmy Rossum was amazing... especially for her very tender years! Her voice does not quite meet the standards of that of Sara Brightman, for whom the role of Christine was written, but give her time. She is still young.

It's interesting what this classic story does to young ladies in their early teen years, with their hormones all over the lot. When I was just about your age, I went to see a (non-musical) version of Phantom that came out in 1962, starring Herbert Lom as the Phantom. That movie was the very first, at the end of which I sobbed like a baby. I surprised myself with the depth of my emotion!

So... yes! I love the Phantom too!
