Posted - December 28 2003 : 11:47:45 PM The Baraka has not deserted us! January 6, 2004 is the release date for the new DVD of THE WIND AND THE LION, including commentary by writer/director John Milius. Pre-orders are available at Amazon, Turner Classic Movies, and probably other places. If you've seen this movie, you'll probably be, like me, among the first to get a copy. If you haven't, check it out as soon as you can. It is one of the most sweeping, exciting, intelligent, romantic adventure films ever made. And the last line is one of the greatest romantic lines of all time. Enjoy the movie, and may we all eat lamb together in paradise!

Posted - January 15 2004 : 11:42:20 AM I got mine last weekend. The print is wonderful, and it's fun listening to John Milius' commentary. He's been told that the sequence of the Marines going into the Palace in Tangier is shown as part of the Corps' OCS training even today. In the short "making of" documentary, they show him getting a special plaque from the Marines, and he says, "I feel like John Wayne in SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON!".
I agree about ZULU DAWN. I guess there is a DVD available in the UK, but it's not that all that great technically. I'd love to see it in letterbox with Bernstein's score in super stereo and the sound of the impis in surround sound in the battle scenes.
