I just watched "The Story of GI Joe", starring Burgess Meredith and Robert Mitchum. One of the better WW2 films I've seen, for me it's right up there with "Twelve O'clock High", starring Gregory Peck. Can anybody suggest any other good WW2 films from that era (late'40's-early 50's)?

I agree- "Band of Brothers" is on my shelf next to "Sands of Iwo Jima","Saving Private Ryan", and "Patton".

Loved the Bridge....but after watching the history channel I know that most of it is not accurate.. but if you want a more realistic bridge ...get "A Bridge Too Far"..Multi-cast again.. and one of the best .. directed by Richard Attenborough the story of Operation "Market Garden"

And it's the "Col. Bogey March" that's stuck in yoru head.. *LOL*

Thank you Sgt.. I totally enjoyed "The Longest Day"..... it's on my shelf next to "Band of Brothers"

In the words of "Pips" Priller,..."Head for home.. the Luftwaffe has had it's great moment.."

I've always liked "The Bridge on the River Kwai", 1957, with William Holden and Sir Alex Guinness.

Oh, man! Now I'm going to be whistling that tune for the rest of the day.

There was a movie about the five Sullivan brothers. They were in the Navy on a ship in WWII when the ship was hit by enemy fire. They all perished.Haven't seen the movie in quite a long time.Remembered getting very emotional when I watched it and probably will do it again if it comes back on.Also there was a movie called,"A Walk in The Sun",I think William Bendix was in it.

Try 'The Enemy Below' with Mitchum, or 'Run Silent, Run Deep' with Clark Gable and Burt Lancaster. Both are submarine flicks, both very good. 'RSRD' is available on DVD. There's some confusion about 'Enemy Below' on DVD...there have been reports that it has been released, but I haven't been able to find it.

Another favorite of mine is 'Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison', which is out on DVD (yes, I'm a raging Mitch fan...mercy, does it show :)?).

I always liked "Stalag-17" & "D-Day," but I guess they were a little later ... "Tora, Tora, Tora"? When did that come out?
