Posted - October 11 2007 : 02:16:30 AM If you think the gun laws are stringent (what a great euphemism!), try coming out to the Golden State! The last time I checked the BATF compendium (of all state gun laws), NY had 16 pages (8.5x11, triple-column), which was a distant 2nd to CA, with 69 pages!!!...the main reason my elder son moved to WA several years ago. |

Posted - October 10 2007 : 10:30:22 PM Yes Fitz, I know about the stringent New York laws. I would not be able to fire it in New York state, legally. I believe I could own one, however. Have to check on that... |

Well, I have decided that if I ever have the extra money, I should very much like to have a smallish flintlock pistol. And, I would like to learn how to fire it.
Better think about that pistol. I have one, but I had to leave it at home last August because of New York gun regulations. You can't carry one into Canada, and that is true of a lot of other states. They treat a flintlock pistol just like any other kind of pistol, which is not the case with the muskets. Sites won't let you fire one unless you are a mounted dragoon or hussar. So mine sits on the shelf over my computer and once and a while I take it down and play with it. You know, maybe I should take it to Martin's Station this weekend and see what I can stir up with that site. I don't know what VA gun laws are, but I bet they are not all that strict. |

The guys keep promising me that one day they will show me how to load and fire a musket. I'm waiting..........
Sounds to me like one Wilderness Woman needs to make a trip to MohicanLand come next June when we end another Great Mohican Gathering at the French Broad Muzzleloaders place. You can fire all the muskets you want. Us women-folk could talk weapons face to face! |

Posted - October 10 2007 : 3:23:29 PM Good thinking GG, - might think about getting a "sawed off shotgun", pretty much the same effect. Have to admit, a sawed-off shotgun isn't quite as "cute" - but it's a hell of a lot easier to load. ;) |

Posted - October 10 2007 : 3:07:13 PM I always wanted a thunder gun (Blunderbuss) because it has a cool name......naw, mainly because one didn't have to be a great shot to put someone back at close range! Oh...and they are cute too! |
