Posted - April 03 2008 : 09:22:23 AM Sooo.... You want to get a pistol? Then a striped skirt? |
Wilderness Woman |
Posted - April 03 2008 : 08:52:31 AM Well, the problem is that at this point in my life, I have no extra money that I can spend on a pistol. So, it must remain a dream, for now.
At any rate, I would want something on the smaller size that my smaller hands could handle. Arthritis has weakened my grip quite a bit over the past 10 years or so. |

Well I have a not-so-secret desire to purchase and own a flintlock pistol.
How much are you wanting to spend? I have a couple for sale. These are English Heavy Dragoon pistols and nothing like what would be found at the CLA auction, but very nice sturdy pistols. |

Posted - April 03 2008 : 07:07:44 AM Seamus recently purchased a flintlock pistol? After not so long ago purchasing a flintlock rifle made just for him? Does Goodwife Nancy know? But seriously -- I guess at our age, "If not now, when?" is a good philosophy to live by. |

Posted - April 02 2008 : 1:03:50 PM Well BW, if your friend Brett knew me... he would know two!
I have a not-so-secret desire to purchase and own a flintlock pistol. In fact, if Seamus looks quite closely at the one he purchased at the recent Contemporary Longrifle Association Show in PA... he will see some dried drool on the gorgeous smooth wood of the grip. That's mine.
It is also my dream to learn how to load and shoot a long rifle or a musket. I hope that will come to fruition in September when we have our 18th Century Weekend at Seamus' cabin. I know of several soldiers who are just itching to teach me to shoot, and I can't wait!

Posted - March 30 2008 : 8:07:37 PM Glad to do what I can, WW, but believe me, if you had ever witnessed any of what my husband calls my "encounters with technology," you might not have put me, even metaphorically, anywhere near a flintlock ready to fire!
But it's an image I like, nevertheless. My husband's best friend, Brett, was hunting deer with another friend during flintlock season, and the friend mentioned how much he loved flintlocks and how he had tried, to no avail, to persuade his wife to appreciate them. Brett shook his head sadly and said, "I've only ever known one woman who appreciates flintlocks. She even has a subscription to Muzzleloader." I was so proud! (Actually the subscription is in my husband's name, but he rarely looks at the magazine.) And I do wish more women appreciated flintlocks and other true colonial crafts, instead of that insipid style known to those of us who hate it as "country bunny throws up." But that topic isn't related to Fort Necessity, either . . . . |

Posted - March 25 2008 : 1:46:36 PM No more family genealogy! No more family history! No more postings on this movie board!
You can all breathe a sigh of relief now!
My time will be devoted to furthering the cause of Native American people, which I have been doing over the years. I am involved with historical research here in America and Europe, and that will take up considerable time.
I may also be going overseas to entertain the Armed Forces troops with our Native American group. We already held a mini pow-wow for the Navy troops returning from Iraq, at Norfolk Navy Base, in Norfolk,
I am also involved in seeking tombstones from the Veterans Administration to have placed on Revolutionary soldier graves who are ancestors.

Sacre bleu! No Pennsylvanians at Necessity, Fitz, only Virginians and Carolinians...and one Dutchman. Maybe therein lies the problem. Happened at Kittanning, though, remember?!! And Loyalhanna....then the Frogs decided it might be better to go back to New France and try their hand in NY and New England...with mixed success.
You mean that out of those 293 men, not a single one was from PA? Nobody drifted south in search of that free land Dinwiddie was giving away (not his of course, but belonging to the King of France)? Well, Fort Necessity was at least IN Pennsylvania.

Posted - March 24 2008 : 08:55:30 AM Well Fitz, I am very glad to have that Pennsylvanian holding that loaded musket! I trust Seamus behind my back (and Bookworm, too) any day of the week, for any purpose. Thank you, Seamus.
And now, by all means, let this be the end of this skirmish, and let us return to the much more interesting topic of Fort Necessity. |

Posted - March 24 2008 : 08:11:11 AM Mon Dieu! A Pennsylvanian with a gun "covering your back" is a scary thing! I think something like this happened near Fort Necessity, which after all, is the topic of the tread. |

Posted - March 24 2008 : 07:39:16 AM As Moderator, at times I must make judgements with which some may not agree. Some may call it censorship. So be it. This is a Community Board, and at times, as in the communities in which we live, decisions must be made for the good of an entire community. I have done just that. I have removed a Post from this Board which was little more than a personal attack upon a Community member, and will continue to do so if it is continued. I will also request from the Sachem that this Community member shooting flaming arrows at another be banned should it occur again. The warning notice is now nailed to the tree.
Discourse and disagreement can be cordial and respectful. In this case, it was not, nor will it tolerated. The writer has said, "So long," but I doubt it. So if you are reading this, writer, take heed. We do not enjoy banning, but there is a precedent or two, and it will be employed if necessary.
I am here to "cover your back,"....all of you here in our Community--Mohicanland. You may not like what I do at times, nor agree with it, but as long as I am a Moderator, your "civility cop," if you will, c'est le guerre, c'est le vie.
Now...I am stepping back into the woods, charged and primed, and taking up my position behind that big tree over there.

Posted - March 19 2008 : 1:15:31 PM Thanks to the both of you. I thought I heard a couple of clicks behind me as hammers were pulled back to full cock.
I appreciate your support and agreement very much. Thanks, also, to the person who PMed their support. (You know who you are!)
Will it stop him? We shall see.
And another PM, and an email! Thanks to both of you, as well. |
