Is anyone familiar with this site?

From Bill Protz:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

THE French and Indian War Grand Encampment Confederation Selects Crown Point, NY. The Largest Gathering of British, French and Indians in 250 Years: August 10-12, 2007

Crown Point, NY, August 2, 2006- Today, the French and Indian War Grand Encampment Confederation has announced that Crown Point State Historic Site on Lake Champlain as the chosen location of the organization's third national event, to be held on the second weekend in August, 2007.

As a result of this decision, the Grand Encampment Confederation is forming a planning committee to collaborate with the manager of the historic site to prepare to hold this event in conjunction with Crown Point's tenth annual French and Indian War Encampment weekend, scheduled for August 10 – 12, 2007. As many as 2000 history re- enactors, representing British, French, and Woodland Indians of 1759, are expected to participate in bringing Crown Point history to life.

"This will be something really great for the people of the Northeast, of the nation, and indeed of North America to witness and enjoy," commented Tom Hughes, Historic Site Manager. "Guests will be able to see, hear, walk among, and interact with the many volunteers who will spend the weekend portraying the people of 1759 Crown Point."

The re-enactors will travel to Crown Point from Canada, England, France, and many parts of the United States to build military obstructions, to sail and paddle on the lake, and to set up military camps as the British and French Armies. Tom Hughes added, "Remarkable for this event will be the Woodland Indian re- enactors, who, I am assured, will bring a high level of authenticity to the public."

Crown Point, which is both a New York State Historic Site and a registered national historic landmark property, offers a unique backdrop for the event, both geographically and historically.

Before 1734, Woodland Indians camped on this peninsula, as they traveled by water. In 1734, the French military built an impressive stronghold here, Fort St. Frédéric, with its tall limestone tower and its fortified windmill. And when the British arrived, they added an even grander fortress at Crown Point, starting in 1759. The stone ruins of both the French-built fort and of the earthen walls and stone barracks of the British fort, located on a point of land that juts into Lake Champlain, are situated at an inspiring location that has remained largely unchanged since a devastating fire burned the British fort in 1773, only two years before the start of the War for American Independence.

"Crown Point Historic Site is most happy to host `The Grand Encampment, The War for Empire 1759' public event on August 10-11- 12, 2007," said Hughes. He continued, "This weekend will be one of the best 250th anniversary French and Indian War commemorations in New York as we celebrate our Colonial period history. Although there were no huge battles fought here, there will be tactical weapons demonstrations for the public to view during the encampment weekend."

For more information, the public may contact Thomas Hughes, Historic Site Manager, Crown Point State Historic Site (739 Bridge Road, Crown Point, NY 12928-2817) by telephone at 518-597-4666 or one may contact The French & Indian War Grand Encampment Confederation via Steven A. Nuckles by phone at 412-818-3165 or by e-mail: stevenuckles@earthlink.net.

the last 2 events by this group were good ones, and the site supports a wide variety of scenarios...

the f.w.h event is the earlier announced 'mega' for '07, and should be well supported... tough call, i am
close enough, making both is in the plan... your impression may be the deciding factor....

a f.w.h event is planned for sept this year, mostly a living history, with a ft.edward event the following weekend,
see how those ho as well...

Which do you think will be the better event, the GE#3 or the one at Fort WH? I have only so much gas money.

probaly the only site in the us where both sides get a fort appropriate to their side (the 1740's fort st.frederick and the rev rar era british crown point), and lake champlain for water action, it can be a good one...
only gotcha is it is close enough to compete with the 250'th of the fall of ft. william henry, which is about
3 weeks later, and 50 miles south...

the site has dense woods, fields, swamps, the lake, and is used for some tacticals and an anual event, have
to see as it develops...
