As I am wearing many hats being involved in the 250th Battle of Lake George, am I am now posting this request as the spearhead for the campaign to Save the Indian Fountain Monument in the Battle Field Park, Lake George, NY...the site where the Last of the Mohicans occured!
In the park there is a monument that was dedicated in 1921 to all the Native people of the region. It is refereed to as the Indian Fountain. Originally it was called the Mohawk Warrior. It was commissioned by George Pratt by the artist Phimister Procor. Mr. Proctor did such bronze work as the Buffulo that grace the streets in our nations capital, the panthers at the entrance to Prospect Park in NYC, the horses in Central Park NYC, and has several peices in the Metropolitain Musuem of Art.
Proctor hired a Blackfoot Indian named BigBeaver to Pose for him. BigBeaver traveled 1500 miles from his rez in Montana to the artists studio in California.
The monument has no caretakers and has fallen victom to time and vandles. The bow and arrows in his hand where broken off and lost. We would like to have these recast and brazed back on. We would also like to see the monument cleaned.
Our goal is to get this done in time for the Sept 17 & 18, 2005 250th Battle of Lake George so that we can redicate it to the Native peoples of the area.
If anyone is interested or knows someone who may be PLEASE let them know.
The flyer can be found on the 250th Battle of Lake George Web Site...

YOUR HELP WILL MAKE SURE THAT THE 7TH GENERATION WILL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED ON THISSITE LONG AFTER WE HAVE GONE!
To date we have raised $10,000 of our $13,000 (more needed for plaque and pond repair if we raise enough for the monument itself) goal. PLease consider helping us with this final $3,000.
I thank you for your time,
Nia:wen (Thank You)

Dear Friend:
All the best in your fund raising. Sounds like a VERY worthy cause. May I suggest you get in touch with HistoryChannel which is providing grants for "Save our History" and/or some of the non-profit groups located in New York State (for a start).
