Posted - October 30 2004 : 11:10:50 PM Greetings All !!! I'm a rather new member to this wonderful web site. I'm also an amateur historian and writer (although I really, really wish I had the time to get into re-enacting). Anyway, I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and after graduating from high school in '68, I went into the Air Force and never looked back. Retired from active duty in November 1991 and now work for FEMA (yeah, the disaster people). Until very recently we lived in Northern Virginia northwest of Winchester (Frederick County)which is chock full of not only Civil War, but F&IW history. I got re-interested in the story of General Edward Braddock and started doing some research and soon decided to write a very, very abbreviated history of the Braddock Road and the events leading up to the Battle of the Monongahela on July 9, 1755 where Braddock was mortally wounded and a young George Washington's legend grew ever stronger. I took plenty of pictures to show how parts of the Braddock Road look today. As I said, it's a very abbreviated history but for those who might want a quick read, it's a good place to start. Here's a link on where to look: http://www.buybooksontheweb.com/description.asp?ISBN=0-7414-2224-7 Thanks to all. Stay safe !!! And oh yeah, vote next Tuesday.
