Dear Friends,A new F&I movie is in the planning stages."Jamie MacGillivray" promises to be "a kind of a big Robert Louis Stevenson action-adventure movie".It will be directed by John Sayles("Sunshine State","Lone Star","Matewan""Eight Men Out","The Howling")and Maggie Renzi("Return of the Secaucus Seven")The pair were in Pittsburgh recently at Ft.Ligonier doing research for the film.Updates will be posted on my website http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vog128/ as they become available.Enjoy!

One of the movers & shakers of "The Robert Carlyle Fan Club" tells me that filming will begin this month in Scotland. There will be some cool pics of castles in the highlands. This will come on the heels of Robert's portrayal of Hitler in the CBS series and John Sayles screenwriting for th new Alamo movie for Disney.

This movie is still a go.It will star Scottish actor Robert Caryle, and will be just in time for the 250th anniversary of the French & Indian War.

Did I mention that "The Virginian" is going to want to add his two cents on this one as well?Of course he knows as much about history as I do on how to fly a 747.Gotta get me one of 'em Federal jobs someday.

There are also some rumors floating around Loyalahanna these days that Major Grant and Msr.West will be the military advisors for this film, much as Dale Dye wa for LOTM.An added feature will be the "cameo"appearances of some of the "gentlemen"from the barracks.EM

Oh, and don't forget, the Major pronounces victuals as "vic-too-alls".

I seem to recall, during the Major's tea party, that while he was lifting the cup to the wax lips of the Henry Bouquet mannequin I heard him hiss into its ear, "I know you've always plotted against me, I will have satisfaction".

It almost reminds me of our most recent action at Loyalahanna several wees ago, when I was a guest of Major Grant and his"hospitality".After inviting me into the officer's quarters,I observed the mannequins of George Washington,Archibald Montgomery and Henri Bouquet seated at the table with a place reserved for me."Gentlemen,I'd like to introduce you to Lt.McKinnon the newest member of our family"Major Grant bellowed.(the mannequins stared ahead in stony silence).(Major Grant to GW)"Much as you were invited to become a member of General Braddock's family,so shall we invite the good lieutenant from that other regiment that shall not be numbered in my presence to become a member of ours"."What say you to that gentlemen?"(mannequins stare ahead in silence).(Major Grant)So,has the cat got your collective tongues?""You weren't so quiet a minute ago when you were conspiring to undermine my expedition to take Ft.Duquesne!""Stop staring at me!Are you trying to offend me!?"(Grant leaves the room with the George Washington mannequin)"Come Col.Washington,we leave at once on our mission just as soon as we have victuals". To Be Continued......

Ahhhhhh, I take it that the Major's copy was a 'special' edition, complete with editor/author notes in the margin (albeit in Crayon), and like his copy of the Bouquet Papers (only Volume 2, all the other volumes are dammed lies, conujured to impune the Major!!!) it probably includes the proper 'omissions' (via black Rub-A-Dub Marker). All kidding aside, at least in the Major's world, he is the captain of his Enterprise.

Or how 'bout a remake of "The UnConquored?"and Neil Swanson's second book "Judas Tree".Major Grant has informed me that HE has a copy that covers Grant's Defeat, although I can't seem to find it anywhere.

I would still rather see Sayles make a movie based on the Allan Eckert 'Winning of America' Series. Most notably, "Wilderness Empire" and "The Conquorers".

Sgt. Munro,

While I entirely agree with your feelings about the current pop culture attitudes toward "the noble savage" (Rousseau must be laughing his head off, wherever he is), I think if there's anybody in the Hollywood mainstream who can do the F&I War period justice, it's Sayles. I think the best thing is to watch, wait, and try to keep as informed as possible as the project develops. A colonial "Dances" is hardly needed, but a colonial "Lone Star" could be really something.

My bad Two Kettles,my mind is still set in the mode for our current production"George Washington's First War:The Battle for Ft.Duquesne."(www.paladincom.com)as we just wrapped up filming and not on Sayle's "Jamie MacGilivray".(both will be shot in SW Pennsylvania though)Actually when we film the Third in the Trilogy encompassing "Pontiac's Uprising" we would like to use some stuff from "The UnConquored"If Sayles uses some as well, that would be cool.I think that he stated that he only wanted to go up to the "Battle of Quebec" in 1760.It would be great if he could stretch it to 1763 howeverLet us know if you come across any more skinny on Sayles.EM

This would be a local production originating in SW Pennsylvania and encompassing the entire Tri-State area.Volunteers would be welcome. What did you say this guy's name was again?EM

Can't they get the guy who played Karloff in "Gods and Monsters" to play Guyasuta? "When time stick burn down, all die!". Or "Scioto Medicine Man make big medicine. All white eyes die, by white flag...that is red!"

I'm glad you mentioned him.He was walking around Ligonier on the Sunday whenyou weren't there. He was dressed except for the make-up.Kinda' reminded me of Tor-Johnson from Edward Wood's"Plan 9 From Outer Space".

We could also have Lady Munro's "friend", the prosperisly large 'Blue Shawnee' play the role of King Hendrick. Remember what happened to him during the 'Bloddy Morning Scout' of 1755?

Actually, Captain, I'm thinking of Tom Vecchio as the War Captain Guyasuta (or Khyasuta, depending on spelling), Ed Highlander as Col. Bouquet, Mike Slease as Col. Armstrong, Lance Wilson as the Marquis de Montcalm, Malcom MacWilliam as Col. Montgomery of the 77th and Ed Vogler as Maj. Allen Campbell of the 42nd. Whaddya think????

I agree.I'm thinking that for this new movie, wouldn't it be cool if John Sayles had smoe notable names in this production. He usually doesn't put big names in,but what if he had R.Lee Ermy playing a Sergeant in one of the British Regiments,Wes Studi as one of the natives etc.The possibilities are endless here
