Hey,
Its been awhile since any gaming info appeared here, so I'm posting to inform any new members, or any of the esstablished customers who may have missed out last year.

I used to miniature and board game all the time. Now however, with 4
children, I have little time, no space and no money to invest in it.
Thank goodness for computers.
HPS ( http://www.hpssims.com/ ) , along with John Tiller, has
produced 3 series of games that should interest this group. They
cover Early American Wars, the Napoleonic Wars and the American Civil
War. They can be viewed in 3d (for miniature players) or 2d for
boardgamers.
The Early American Wars cover the French & Indian Wars, the American
War of Independence and the War of 1812. In this series each hex is
125 ft (@40 yds), the time scale is 1 turn = 5 minutes, and the troop
scale is 1 to 1. Each counter, or base of figures is a company of
infantry, troop of cavalry, single gun, or single leader.
The games come with scenario editors so you can make your own what-if
scenarios, and comes with a campaign feature that allows single
battles to belinked together where casualties can be carried from one
battle to the next.
Computer gaming allows FOW, without an umpire, games can be played
over several months by PBEM, a few hours on-line, or hot-seat (with
both players at the same computer.) Many arguements over rules are
eliminated in computer gaming, and Tiller's games can be massaged,
for those willing to invest in the time, by creating their own PDT
(Parameter Data) files, and OOB (Order of Battle) files.
I have done a lot of the mods, and enjoy what if, although the stock
scenarios are fun, too.
Multi-player games can be done PBEM or on-line as well.
I am currently playing 8 different games. One of my opponents lives
in New Zealand, one in France, two in England, one in Germany, one in
Canada, and two in the US. All are PBEM games. I work as an Assistant
Manager at McDonalds so I have a weird work schedule. With computer
gaming I can get to the game files in my spare time, as can my
opponents. I usually play a turn of each battle every day or every-
other day.
It is fun to play games again without having to block out so much of
my time to do it.
There is a club that supports each series of games. The one for the
Early American Wars series is called the Colonial Campaigns Club, or

I encourage all of you to stop in and take a look. We do some light
hearted role-play, and debate adnausem about historical details. Many
members are re-enactors, miniature gamers, boardgamers, historians
and ametur historians (and a few spell worse than I do, but not many.
hehehe...) It is a very fun wargame club in the truest meaning of the
words. We are a community of friends and acquantences as are most
wargame clubs or re-enactment group that meets face-to-face.
The games run about $50 each, but discounts can be obtained.
Considering for that you get all your terrain, the rules, all the
units are painted, 100-200 premade battles, and the ability to create
you own scenarios, make you own armies (with work and imagination),
and you will find it is a great investment.
