In LOTM it is stated that the Hurons and Ottawa are allied to the French. In actuality which tribes were allied to which side? Were these divisions based on the locations of the territories of each tribe or were the divisions made on a political or philosophical basis?

He also finished out his life livng on General O'Hara's Estate (Where present-day Etna, Sharpsburg, Aspinwall, Blawnox, Fox Chapel and O'Hara Township/Boros are located) and was later buried after his death (Near the Sharp's Hill VFD, Sharpsburg). A very pragmatic person, he does make for interesting study.

Afterwards, they maintained a cool and very distant relationship with the British unlike the other tribes in the Iroquois Confederation. During Pontiac's War, Khyasuta (or Guyasuta) a Seneca (of Mingo bloodlines) was a sort of "unofficial emmisary" to the very active Western Nations and had a hand in the mobilization of the Ohio Nations. The Seneca Tribe did not seek to improve relations with the British Crown until the Revolutionary War, at which point they noted that encroaching American settlers were a greater threat to their sovereignty than a couple of British forts/trading posts. Just some food for thought...

Your Most Humble Servant,

Seneca? did I say Seneca? What I meant to say was that the Seneca were allied with the French.Everyone knows that Guyasuta was a Seneca Chiefwho carried out Pontiac's War in Western Pa.Yeah, that's it,thats the ticket! However,Guyasuta's nephew Cornplanter did fight for the Crown during RevWar.He first wanted to remain neutral, but was accused of cowardice by Joseph Brant. His was the first tribe to sue for peace with the U.S.and received small land grants in exchange.

Well, natives were allied loosely for the most part, shawnee were allied to the french as were the lenape, abanaki, wyndots and cherokee, and others. Mohawk were allied to the british, as well as several others.

The nations might declare an allegence, but the natives of the nation wre for the most part allied to who had better trade goods, or who was winning a particular battle.

I'll post more at a later time.

I have always heard that the Hurons were wiped out by the Iroquois in 1649, and that the remnants of their tribe was either absorbed into other tribes, pushed into the northern Great Lakes area, or became known as the Wyandotte is what is now the US. How is it that they were so prominent in LOTM?

In actuality the Hurons & Ottowas were allied with the French.I believe that the Hurons were from the New York/Canada region while the Ottowas resided in the Detroit area. The Iroquois Confederation were allied with the British(Mohawk,Seneca,Oneida,Tuscorawa etc.).
