Don't blame you a bit, Securemann.
If you put this thing on a scale of one to ten with the war as to how anxious each makes me, the war would be about a two, and SARS would be around twenty.

The guy that rooms next to my daughter in college just came back from spring recess.Guess where he went? HONG KONG!! Man,Am I nervous! I told my daughter to steer clear for this dude for now. I now have R.N.F. ( real nervous father). |

I sure hope that a cure will be found ASAP but I also hope that people who return from Hongkong will be screened thoroughly upon arrival at the home airport. I know the Edmonton International airport is taking steps towards that.. |

That's the one, Bea.
At this point it appears pretty clearly to be a virus, so antibiotics won't work.
Two teams, one in Germany and on in Hong Kong (I think) appear to have found fragments of what appears to be a paramyxovirus. This is not a positive ID yet, but it is hopeful.
The Paramyxoviridae includes mumps, measles, some other nasty things, and some parainfluenza viruses, which would be the likely culprit here.
I think it unlikely that any current vaccine would be effective in preventing it (assuming the ID holds). Whether any of the current antivirals might help remains to be seen.
The saving grace here is that the disease appears to be spread by droplet, rather than airborne. If it were airborne there would likely be thousands of people dead by now, with the potential for killing millions. |

Are you referring to the Asian pneumonia that is spreading now?
If so, yes, I am quite concerned as well. We've had 9 cases diagnosed in Canada, including one close to my home town! I have also read that it has now spread to Germany..let's pray that they will get to the bottom of this and find an anti-biotic that WORKS.. |
