Posted - June 23 2009 : 10:27:00 AM Okay folks, welcome to Foreign Policy 101, class is in session, and Professor 'Sarge' has a pop quiz for you. Please tell me which U.S. President made the following statement concerning Iranian political freedom:
"And, tonight, let me speak directly to the citizens of Iran: America respects you and we respect your country. We respect your right to choose your own future and win your own freedom. And our nation hopes one day to be the closest of friends with a free and democratic Iran."
So please make your selection, and feel free to add any comments as well. I will reserve my own vote for later, as well as give the answer to you in a couple of days. |

Hmmmmm, I wonder which mindless troll at Google programed those search results; especially since I clipped that quote from the Washington Post article (on their website) covering the address, as well as actually remembering hearing those words when I watched that speech on Fox in 2006.

Posted - June 26 2009 : 6:25:09 PM Well, it looks like only three people have got the answer right. The answer is, President George W. Bush, and the quote was from his State of the Union address, January 2006. Those of you who guessed President Eisenhower deserve at least honorable mention, for making an educated guess.

Posted - June 23 2009 : 12:59:04 PM I have no idea, either. But, I voted for Carter. Given his efforts at peacemaking in the Middle East, it sounds like something he would say.
My second vote would have been for Obama, because he simply has no clue. |
