Posted - December 09 2003 : 01:39:28 AM Any thoughts on Ms. Coulter, author of, "Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right", and, "Treason: Liberal Treachery From the Cold War to the War on Terrorism."?
I've only seen a bit of her on CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC. She kind of creeps me out. |

As I have said before, we agree on this aspect of the debate.

Posted - December 11 2003 : 5:28:23 PM Point well taken, but I still think Ann Coulter is a loose cannon and a slightly loose screw. Some of the most conservative people I know don't like her because of her inability to participate in civilized discourse. Her veracity notwithstanding, I don't like anybody --right or left -- that instantly believes that people who don't agree with them or think differently from them are somehow evil, wrong, traitorous, etc. etc. It's not liberals or conservatives who are the big danger to our country -- it's people who, from whatever side, can't acknowledge the rights of others to have their own opinions. I might not always agree with columnists and commentators like Cal Thomas, William Safire and George Will, for instance, but I have the utmost respect for them because they put forth their arguments in well thought out and masterful language. Ann Coulter, meanwhile, seems to just be a screeching voice. And Franken et. al are just as annoying when they get to their screeching from the left. Christina |

Posted - December 11 2003 : 2:47:06 PM Well guys, Ms. Coulter may be a wee bit rough around the edges, but I have yet to have see anyone charge her with slander/libel. Oh yes, there is the usual leftist cry of "mean spirited" (a charge that never applies to their own ilk, ala Franken, Moore, Clinton, etc.), but no one seems to come forward with evidence (not feelings) to counter her evidence. In the police biz, this is called a 'slam-dunker', meaning that the state not only has a Prima Facie Case but also can refute any of the defense alibi's with hard evidence.

Posted - December 11 2003 : 01:28:17 AM Yes. Thanks for that validation Christina. Whereas O'Reilly is maddeningly entertaining in his lunacy -Coulter is just plain scary. She's like the conservative Michael Moore. |

Posted - December 09 2003 : 10:54:03 AM I have the same opinion of her as I do of all the other ranting reactionaries who don't know how to make their points without beating people over the head or listening to the other side. She gives me the creeps too. Plus she and her commentaries and her book are just one more chink in the armor of civilized discourse which is already in sad enough shape in this country. Her calling "liberals" treasonous makes my blood boil. First of all, we've gotten into too much of a trend of tarnishing everybody in this country as either "liberal" or "conservative" when in reality many people hold views that are a sincere mix of both sides -- something Ms. Coulter might realize if she bothered to have a coherent discussion with anybody. And her suggestion that people who oppose certain things are treasonous makes my blood REALLY boil because I'm personally acquainted with several people, including my father (World War II, U.S. Marines, Okinawa) who have served or are serving their country proudly right now and aren't crazy about a lot of what's going on. So for exercising their hard-won right to free speech and thought they're traitors? Let's step outside, Ms. Coulter, shall we? Christina |
