Posted - October 09 2003 : 2:03:28 PM For the past few days I seem to stumble upon the same subject no matter where I go: POLYGAMY..Well, I thought it's time to post..:)
I first came across this subject I read a book by author DIANE NOBLE called THE VEIL which described the now outlawed ( or so I thought) practices ( blood atonement and multiple wives)of the Mormons in the 19th century. Then I was channel surfing I came upon a CBC TV investigative report ( link below) which really got to me..I was so appalled that in this day and age our law enforcers don't do anything to prevent this kind of thing to happen. People in Bountiful, BC and also in in Colorado City are permitted to have 20 wives, 60 children!!!!! I just can't believe this and then of course I noticed a book about this very topic and the towns I mentioned by John Krakauer..Forgot the title but will post it soon. Anyway, I would like to know how you guys feel about this..I really feel for those young girls..'Nuff said..just take a look and read the interview..

Posted - November 23 2003 : 3:06:01 PM Unfortunatley it isn't only polygamy that is involved. It goes much, much deeper..If one reads the book by Krakauer one will notice that blood atonement is still very much practised as in the killing of a young mother and her toddler.. And what saddens me most is that people are so incredible impassive.. |

Posted - November 22 2003 : 9:42:40 PM Bill J, you crack me up, but how refreshing to find an honest man and a smart one to boot. Pologamy, hmmm I have to say I dont agree with it either. To kick this topic up a notch, most men can father children, but it takes a real man to commit to one woman and thier family. The family unit is the back bone, not to say there are circumstances which this can not be so that doesn't say pologamy is the way, it's not. There are times when one man cant keep one woman happy either, just food for thought.. |

Posted - October 09 2003 : 4:41:30 PM The Child Tax Credit issue sure raises my hackles. In Canada we're taxed to death anyway and facing cuts left and right and here we are sponsoring people that abuse the law. AS I said before I am frustrated that people can get away with that..
Make sure to read the second one. It gets scarier there..I put the book on hold at my library..Oh, and I forgot to mention that I also saw a special about the US Mormon fundamentalists who have close ties to the Canadian ones..BTW the kids all resemble each other quite a bit. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, eh?? |

That child tax credit has gotta hurt the taxpayers with this group! One wonders how, if it is illegal to have more than one wife in Canada, those three girls obtained recognition for citizenship and got all their socialized benefits......one hopes it wasn't due to being recognized as legal SPOUSES of one of those bozos. More and more, it's a crazy world which makes no sense. |

Okay, found the link for John Krakauer:

The other book I had mentioned by Diane Noble was FICTION but she did some great research and the story line evolved around the Massacre at Mountain Meadows. I am sure most of you history buffs will be aware of that massacre and Brigham Young..

That's exactly how I feel, Bill!! It's about the exploitation of 14 year old girls right here under our noses in North America. Religious freedom ,that is taken wayyy too far..What got to me the most is the attitude of some of the towns people (that are not Mormon). They didn't seem to mind it a bit..I just can't understand why our law enforcers don't do a thing..Anyhow, off the soapbox I go..
BTW you should have seen people's family trees. A never-ending story.. |

Posted - October 09 2003 : 3:06:27 PM A no brainer for me. I'm agin it. Totally. One wife is enough! Can you imagine your chore list if you had 20 WIVES??????????
Besides, it's detrimental to your health. Betty would kill me if she found out I had/wanted another wife!
