The LOCATIONS ... in a bit more detail ...

No matter how far! Wasn?t that the truth! It often seemed, and probably I did, like I crisscrossed the terrain, now known as MohicanLand, enough times to lay out a topographical survey. There are six counties involved. A pretty good area. There are roughly, depending upon how you choose to look at it, twelve major sites, with several "sub-sites" at some of those. Is that a lot or a little? Beats me, but it sure wasn?t easy to ascertain them back in 1993! Why? Well, first of all, the newspaper clippings were sketchy and often vague. Compounding that, was the fact that "locals" were pretty much totally confused about what occurred where. I took more wrong turns than I care to remember. To top it all off, no one, among the film crew, was at every location. I came to the eventual conclusion that, after all was said and done, only Michael Mann, the producer/director/writer, had set foot in all these locations before me ... maybe.

At one point, late in my for-fun "ordeal," I managed to have a telephone conversation with LOTM locations manager, Michael Bigham. By this time, I?d located every location save one. That was the Opening & Closing Vistas. "Somewhere up on the Blue Ridge Parkway," was Bigham?s answer. Even he did not know. The conversation did serve as a solid confirmation of my other discoveries, however. Now, where in the world was that opening scene shot? We?ll take a look at that and much more in this section.

Beginning above, simply click on each location, representative of a film scene, for a look at that location. Please bear in mind that this on-line version of the Companion Guide is meant to be used in conjunction with the original book, On the Trail of the Last of the Mohicans.
