Poll Question:
Of these prominent bloopers that made their way to film in The Last of the Mohicans, which do you find most "shocking" in its failure to be detected before the final release?

I'm ashamed (?) to admit that I've not noticed ANY of the bloopers, and I've watched LOTM a whole bunch of times. Hey, time for another viewing!

Has anyone noticed the gas can/fire extinguisher to the left of the British Infantry when Cora looks back to find Hawkeye?(as they're leaving the fort) There is also a small metal bowl as well! Take a look on you video/DVD.

I always thought the most prominant blooper was the closeup of Uncas in the riverwalk scene where his earring suddenly switches to the opposite ear. How did that one not even rate a mention?

I've ever thought that the most shocking scene of the whole movie is the one in which Magua has Munro's heart in his hand.

What's this? I never knew about a diver! That's a new on one me. I'll have to look for that. I STILL (after 150 thousand viewings of the movie) have never seen the panther blooper (can't remember if it was a man or the cage), and a couple of others. I'm still bothered by the number of times Alice opens and then buttons the front of her bodice when they arrive at the fort while it's being bombed -- in a matter of minutes, first it's open, then it's closed, then it's open, etc. Oh well. I still love the movie!

O'Siyo, the one thats always drove me nuts is the megaphone man, the others I've either missed, or whatever... but now I cant take my eyes off of him!!!!
What the real question is, if they released a Directors Cut on dvd, with computer technology & all, why didnt they "erase" some of this (especially megaphone man!)?
Maybe we could convince MM to release a "special expanded" directors cut, with some of the other as yet unseen footage & computer "enhance" (i.e. cleanup) some of the outright goofs! (that is the answer to the question, "how do you go one better on a classic"?)...
Well, I can dream cant I??? ;-)

Well, I think a "metal" (or tin) bowl would be seen lying about ... ;-)
Never noticed the fire extinguisher though....I'm going to have to stop reading this stuff, it'll ruin the film for me, I'll be spending my time just looking for bloopers instead of enjoying my favorite all-time film! <aarrrgh!>

Hello to all! It has been forever since I have visited the Board. I definitely think the blue cap and megaphone wins the poll hands down. Nathan and I watched the DVD the other night with some different scenes in it,it was really good and makes me want to be leaving for the Gathering tomorrow. Mark, Nathan and I are doing well and looking forward already to June. Hope to see you all there. Kathy

I just remembered another blooper that drive me nuts. During the chase see (the one with the wiggly musket and mushy boulder) Hawkeye shoots and Indian who falls backward on a rock and his musket falls to the ground. The view changes to the other direction as Hawkeye runs past the dead Indian and grabs his musket from ON THE ROCK, not on the ground. I grind my teeth each time I see that one.

While ive never seen any of the bloopers on while actually watching the movie, those pics come as a real shock, but i suppose every movie has its bloopers...another thing ive noticed. in the opening "lets go elk hunting" scene, Natty is running through the forest, he runs through the trees, and the camera switches to uncas (i think, it could have been chingachgook) then it goes back to Hawkeye again, but this time he isnt wearing a shirt. I was wondering whether he was supposed to take it off, or if I got my people mixed up, or if thats just another blooper. has anyone else noticed that? |

In the "elk hunt" scene, Hawkeye has taken off his shirt, ties is around his waist, and then Uncas tosses Killdeer back to him. It happens fast. Not a blooper, IMO.

Ack...in the Megaphone Man part, there is ANOTHER guy to his left with a dark baseball cap on...alomst to the left side of the screen, next to a uniformed soldier.

Possible blooper? I was gazing at my Uncas wallpaper n my puter at wor today when I noticed something: when Uncas puts his hand on Chingachgook's shoulder before he goes to rescue Alice, what is that metal thing beside the tree? Is this a possible blooper? It almost looks like a stairway railing.... |

I, like Theresa, will have to go watch again...BUT, I will tell you that when Cecelia and I visited the then intact Huron Village, there was a neat little wooden stairway leading up to the rock they were perched behind. Didn't notice a metal railing though...will have to go see.

Hmmm ....
I don't know one way or the other for certain, but on the authority of Soldier #1, who was acting as an A.D. during the filming at CRP - and was there on set for this - it appears that Chingachgook, Hawkeye, Cora, & Uncas were actually just upstream from Hickory Nut Falls when this was shot [shooting of Duncan, etc.], not even close to the Huron Village. Could be another case of multiple shoots at different locations, ala the Burial Scaffold [Lake James & Biltmore Estate] and "Duncan Falling Down" [Lake James & Pisgah Forest's Coleman Boundary]. |

Rich, you didn't meant that Duncan wasn't near the Huron Village when Hawkeye shot him, did you? Sorry 'bout the double negative. What I meant is...Duncan WAS in the Huron Village when he was shot but Hawkeye wasn't near there, right? Let's see, that's doesn't make sense either...hmmmm... here:
Clear it up any?

Now...I don't mean to disagree with Soldier #1, BUT...having been "Up 'ar". The rock they run up to is quite visible just as it appears in the film, just at the end of the village where you see Hawkeye and Cora leaving (also note concrete just at edge of villge in that scene). Cecelia and I walked up to the rock (via the steps I mentioned in another post), but it was too dark to get a picture. To me, it looked just as it did in the movie. Now, of course, one can't head up Rumblin' Bald (Uncas leaving Ching...to rescue Alice) and happily pop out onto the CR cliff trail. Could that be what he was eluding to? I think this calls for someone else getting up there!!
