A couple of anecdotes I recall regarding Pickett-

He graduated last in his class at West Point.

He won "Laurels" for his performance in the Mexican American War.

In 1865, in the last days of the Civil War, General Lee fired General Pickett, as Pickett was absent from his command, attending a "Shad Bake" (Picnic Party) with some other generals, while his division was getting cut up in battle.
