There was a story on TV's "The Real West" Narrated by Kenny Rodgers that stated how one of Davey's relatives recieved a letter from David Crockett (who had survived the slaughter at the Alamo)in 1853. This letter had been sent from Texas while Crockett was traveling back through from somewhere else. Did Crockett escape? Did he swing a deal with his captors using silver that Bowie had brought with him and had hidden inside the Alamo? When Jim Bowie had arrived at the Alamo, he supposedly had traveled from a location three days walk
away from the Alamo. It reportedly took Bowie's party several days to make the trip on horseback. It was said that Jim's party had stopped along the way to relieve some Indians of their cache of silver along with as much of the stuff they could dig out of the Indians silver mine as time allowed. Did Bowie hide this silver at the Alamo in the hope that he'd survive with the rest of his party to leave again and take it with him? Did Davey know of this silver and it's location in the mission? Qien Sabe? This just goes to show how many varied stories still exist about these brave but all too human heroes of history.
