: At Little Big Horn, it has been established that Company L under Lt. Calhoun fought a bitter rear guard action. Has there been any established opinion on what action Company I under Captain Myles Keogh performed? Where they in fact suporting Company L as a rear guard? Did they fight hard, or collapse?
I remember during my one, and only, visit to the Battlefield in 1987, getting the distinct impression [from the location of the markers] that Keogh's Company I had the look of a unit that had been pushed over the ridge - away from the river - by mounting Indian pressure.
It is more commonly thought that they were going to the aid of a collapsing Company L, under Calhoun, or moving to meet a new threat in the form of Crazy Horse. Most descriptions say their demise was quick.
