I thought the movie was great, however, it would have benefited greatly by having George Custer and his actions on East Calvary Field protrayed. The fight was critical to protecting the Union flank and a personality like Custers would have been fun to watch.
: : : I'm surprised this site is not used more! I check it every day, but there is little if no activity. Just watched the movie Gettysburg last eve (probably my 5th time, but it's been awhile) with a friend who has only ever seen it once. I pointed out some different things to him, talked history, etc. but since Civil War is not my real expertise (I seem to know a lot about 18th century stuff!!!!), I felt inadequate at times. However, it is certainly, in my opinion, one of the finest movies ever made. I seem to remember, though, several historians telling me that the battle scenes with Chamberlain on Little Round Top, really didn't happen that way. Comments??

: I have a big interest in the American Civil War,but my big thing would be Custers last stand.Last week I watched 'Gettysburg' for the 5th or 6th time.I think its just brilliant. My favourite parts are Chamberlains charge down Little Round Top especially when daniels shouts for bayonets!(I'm going to do a bit more reading to find out for myself just how accurate that scene is)After watching the film for the first time I became very interested in James Longstreet. In 1998 I visited the Confederate muesem in New Orleans and I pasted comment on why there were on photos or painting of Longstreet there.I was then informed that he is viewed as a traitor in the south.Very sad!!I will be travelling from N.Ireland in Nov to visit Gettysburg and hopefully find out a bit more.finally do you know if there is a directors cut of the film. Please reply!
