Survivors of the Alamo did not mention this event.Surely the best known - Mrs.Susanna Dickinson- whose husband would have had
to cross it would have mentioned it.However it would appear that they were indeed given a choice and only one man chose to leave.
He was Louis Rose, a Frenchman and reputedly a veteran of
Napoleon's armies.He died in Louisiana in 1850.
Incidentally only 6 of the heroes were actually born in Texas and
all of them were Mexicans.Among the dead were 12 Englishman,12 Irishman and 4 Scotsman.Only Virginia had more men at the Alamo
than England.However they all undoubtedly became Texan heroes
on March 6th 1836. Remember the Alamo!
