Hi Sir Bill
Thanks for the bell!
Am glad you found it before the cows came home and trampled it to smithereens; it is an old rusty bell, you know... I need a new one... care to contribute a shiny copper penny towards its purchase?
RoadRunner is cable Internet; am the third one in these boondocks to get on it. It is fast; compared to my ISP that is. Some say DSL etc is faster; I do not know. OK, the hype was that this would be 50x faster than the ISP; well, no, but it is about 2-3 times the speed the Board Page loaded in half the time, the music is more audible, and The Rose, which you have yet to finish, was a blast!!!!!
OK, the cost is $40 a month versus $20 with local ISP, but... provided this really runs as smoothly as they claim,
a - I can drop the second phone line
b - since this is always on, I am on the internet uninterrupted with the exception of when I shut down the computer.
Also, with the ISP, even though the time you spend in cyberspace is no longer measured in minutes (like in the old days with AOL); each time you hang up and redial, it is a local call.
So I figured with the freeing of the second line, double the surfing/downloading/uploading speed, etc, I will have less system crashes (hopefully!) etc etc
And it IS cheaper than ISDN or DSL or whatever else they gave; these services often require a lengthy contract and needs more set up cost.
I shall keep you posted as to the true effectiveness of Road Runner.
Yr Always On The Job, TC
