: : : : : But.....man I love it. Great food. Great cultural legacy.
: : : : : Let's hear it for the Pennsylvania Dutch.
: : : : : Bill R
: : : : Hey!
: : : : What exactly are the Pennsylvania Dutch? Geez, right, probably a stupid question..... But what the hell....
: : : : Ilse
: : : Hi Ilse!
: : : Not a stupid question at all!!! What they are not; Dutch.
: : : What they are; German.
: : : Pennsylvania Deutschland ... Amish country ...
: : : Now you get it, right???
: : : E
: : Hi Elaine!
: : Yes!!! I was checking all these posts and thinking: Huh? Sounds more like a German diet to me....
: : Dutchy Deutchschy Germany.... Okay guys, respect the difference... Or I will be so offended, you know? Just kidding :)
: : Ilse
: My fault Ilse. It's where I come from. Many Germans came into the early colony and established farms and towns in the interior.
: They were, of course, German or Deutsch but are now called the Pennsylvania Dutch which is a corruption of the proper term. But then, their language is a corruption too...no longer pure German but a colloquial dialect. My mother and grandmother spoke it whenever they didnt want the kids understanding...so they never taught it to me, and when my grandmother died that opportunity was lost.
: Many of the Pa. Dutch aren't Amish these days. An awful lot of them look like and act like you and I until they open their mouth. THEN you know!!
: Would you like me to conjugate the word this? Dis Dat Dese Dose.
: (this that these those)
