: : : : back to Philadelphia
: : : Your dispatch about the treacherous Buffalo Sabres has been passed to Commandant Clarke and all Broad Street Bullies have been put on full alert. Reinforcements have been ordered east through South Jersey and across the Walt Whitman Bridge to Broad Street. Another detachment will travel the Blue Route south to the end and then take the Ninety-Five to Broad Street, and a third will arrive via the Schuykill. The troops will gather at the First Union Centre with a rousing cheer of GO FLYERS!!!!
: : : Best wishes,

: : Goody Sandy,
: : It is good(y) Sandy, to see that you FINALLY root for a GOOD team! You are a wee bit schizo though, aren't you? You root for Flyers, but not the ubiquitous Philadelphia Phillies? Tsk tsk.
: : What did Boston ever give us but Sam Adams, blockades, snowball throwing mobs, tax evaders and a war nobody wanted but them.
: : Now Philadelphia.....aaaaahhhhh. Ben Franklin wise and witty, the Declaration of Independence, capitol of our nation, largest city in America, the longrifle, city of brotherly love - and let's not forget Bookbinder's wonderful snapper soup, home made scrapple, our thirteen star flag all in a circle, the first formal fire department, the first post office (there ya go Richfed!) oh my! I could go on and on!!!

: Bill,
: You forgot to mention souse. What would the Pennsylvania Dutch be without souse? - that delightful, delectable, infinitely malleable dish with the elusive morsels of actual meat imbedded somewhere in it, if you've got the stomach to search for them. Ummm, yummy!

MY! Folks who know and appreciate the tastes of Pennsylvania colony are just popping up from all over, arent they? Cool!
One of the reasons I am rather, ahem, large these days is because I was brought up on Pennsylvania Dutch food, and never lost the taste for it. Then too, that food would stick to your ribs and you could go all day out in the fields fueled by it, but I haven't been working out in the fields farming lately (like never!) hence the good rich Dutchy food never went anywhere but AROUND my ribs and stayed there! Rather high in cholesterol also (try telling me panhaus and scrapple isnt!) which led to letting some stranger tinker with my heart a while ago.
But.....man I love it. Great food. Great cultural legacy.
Let's hear it for the Pennsylvania Dutch.
