Good morning, Jo,
Don't give up on Sherman Alexie! Read "The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven" first and then try "Reservation Blues." I disliked "Indian Killer" so much that I gave away the book, something I rarely do, but have loved his other writing.
As for "Deerslayer," I had two very long plane flights this week and actually read up to chapter 25! I think I can actually see the end from there. There IS an end. Keep going. You can do it!
