: : : Dear Lady Dana McS,
: : : You've given me a most wonderous challenge. I have listened to Nanci Griffith's rendition of my most favorite song (Red is the Rose) so many times tonight that i shall hear her in my sleep for a week. "That's a good thing"!! In the second chorus, it is more clear that the word may be "point".......i can clearly hear the "p"......but i will not be satisfied until i have found written proof, and i am working on that.

: : Davey Gunn,
: : Does this help?
: : {And a Red Rose to the Irish lass, Danalee,
: : Who declared it was Boyne so pointedly.}
: : Elaine
: : RED IS THE ROSE
: : cho: Red is the rose that in yonder garden grows,
: : And fair is the lily of the valley;
: : Clear is the water that flows from the Boyne
: : But my love is fairer than any.
: : Come over the hills, my bonny Irish lass
: : Comer over the hills to your darling;
: : You choose the rose, love, and I'll make the vow
: : And I'll be your true love forever.
: : 'Twas down by Killarney's green woods that we strayed
: : And the moon and the stars they were shining;
: : The moon shone its rays on her locks of golden hair
: : And she swore she'd be my love forever.
: : It's not for the parting tht my sister pains
: : It's not for the grief of my mother,
: : "Tis all for the loss of my bonny Irish lass
: : That my heart is breaking forever.

: Well, that should do it, Elaine. Thank you everyone for clearing this up. I have enjoyed reading your ponderings and wonderings. I also think I need to listen to a little Nanci Griffith.:)
: Dana McS.
Thank you........
As i said last night, it was not easy to determine the word that was used in the verse......and not ever seeing the lyrics (and couldn't find it anywhere!)i couldn't say for sure. Thank you very much for the written verse.........i do like "Boyne" much better than "point" anyway.
thanks again,
