Dear friend Malcolm,
After reading your dispatch about the Fort at Carlisle and the close distance to the stockade at Loudoun I felt compelled to warn you of a native in the Loudoun area, Little Carpenter by name. He has sworn to the Crown but I have heard from Capt. Busse that if given more trade goods by the French he would just as soon serve the king of France. Please keep a look to your backside and warn Davey Gunn also.
As I write this from Fort Henry at the gap at Tolihaio it has been very busy. We are patrolling every day between our neighboring forts. But alas the muskets we receive from the Provincial stores are in sad repair. If they can be fixed then we have no powder or flints. How does one fight this treacherous enemy, with forks and shovels? I am very fortunate that I have my own fusee which I came about in a very interesting fashion but that is a story for another time.
I must see to Divine services for the men and then must leave with all great speed to Col. Weiser's home for a conference. Seamus will be there also with a lass named Nancy. It will be good to see him. What do you think of this lass, Nancy? Do you think it possible that a lady could steal the heart of Seamus? I thought at one time impossible but now one can't tell.
I must close now dear fiend . Please keep a watchful eye on the horizon.
At Fort Henry in the Blue Mountains,
Sgt. Toot
God Save the King!
