: Well, look what Patty the Dutchie has found! A *new* interview from Amazon.com with MM regarding the DVD version.
: I'm sorry, but as I read this it all made perfect sense. These changes he states as his intentions are exactly the interpretation I had.
: "Once we were here ..."
: Enjoy & thanks, Patty.

Thank you Patty, for finding and sharing this with us!
I still have a hard time with the DVD; watched part of it again last night; still wish Mr. Mann was asked why he left mistakes in to "further explore characters".....
(from the interview:)
"My intent on going back was to make a bigger, richer, more orchestral kind
of experience. There are more powerful emotions available to the audience if the actual story itself was amplified."
I just don't see how subtracting from scenes, adding a bit more to othere scenes, but no real "bigger, richer, more orchestral kind..."??? I guess his idea of a "bigger, richer, etc." is different than mine. (And leaving out the Clannad - this made it more "orchestral"??)
(again, from the interview:)
"I took out four or five minutes and added eight minutes. The film's metric length won't indicate the effect. The reason
to do these changes is to make the story much more profound. Some of these things have an exponential effect out of
proportion to their length."
OK, I must be daft; how does 8 minutes of film make it more "profound" (when 5 minutes were cut out...a total of 3 minutes difference....) and why didn't he do this in the first issue, then?
A million and a half feet of film and he could only deem that 8 minutes were the "profound" ones?????
Well, I'll get off of my coffee box. Just my opinion. I still have my VHS.
thanks, again, Patty. An interesting interview...and thanks Elaine, for posting it. Have looked for reviews but have found none.
