I always thought of this site , like the film, as a 'jumping off place.' How far you jumped was up to you. Mohicanland, although it represents a place that never existed, is remarkable in that it is a place for discussing concepts related to the American frontier in a unique way. I always was partial to deconstructing Hawkeye. Too bad the poster couldn't find it in him to pay a civil visit.
Two great books I read recently are Jill Lepore, "Name of War: King Phillip's War and the Origins of American Identity" and Jennifer Brown, "Strangers in Blood: Fur Trade Company Families in Indian Country."
