: I haven't gotten on here in over a month and believe me, that's a big mistake! There's no possible way to read everything so I tried to hit the high spots. I was interested in the posts about the Highland Games & bagpipe music, and all bagpipe jokes aside, I have to admit that I was moved to tears when my 98-year-old aunt's casket was rolled out of the chapel yesterday to the tune of a single piper playing "Amazing Grace". Her Ulster-Scot greatxxxx grandfather came from Ireland over 200 years ago, so it was a fitting tribute to her heritage.
: I have been going to various Games since childhood, and I always enjoy it. Click on the link to go to my Highland Games page.
: As for fiddlers, did you know that Dougie MacLean ("The Gael") is a member of the board of directors of the Swannanoa Gathering held at Warren Wilson College each summer? So hearing him while you are in N.C. might not be totally out of the question! There are many fine fiddlers in N.C.---Bonnie Rideout, Fred Lail . . . I'm not certain if Alistair Fraser, who plays on the soundtrack, has ever been affiliated with this particular workshop, but I know I've seen his name somewhere related to a North Carolina event.
: We have certainly had a bit of cold weather and Lake James in the area of the canoe escape has been partly frozen over. (I can envison Hawkeye et. al. doing a Hans Brinker heading for the river!)
: I plan on coming to the Gathering this year. Agnes says hi.
Hi Susan,
Sorry to hear of your aunt's passing. I can imagine how heart piercing a lone bagpiper playing Amazing Grace must be. How Beautiful!
So glad to here you'll be with us again this year at the gathering. Your post reminded me to check when the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games were so I looked them up online (when all I really needed to do was pay attention to the afore mentioned posts) and saw how soon they were after the Gathering (July 6-9). Growing up (in Hickory) we could look out from our back yard on a clear day and see Grandfather Mtn. and I've always wanted to go to the games and am planning on going this year. Like I said, I was tickled to find out I'd be right back up in the High country two weeks after the Gathering. Yiiiiippppeeeeeee!!!!!!
Oh, and Hi back to Agnes!
