: I keep reading the horror stories about the weather over there, the National Guard being called out, etc.

: So, Elaine and Rich (and others there), are you all okay??

Hi Myrrh,

I can't speak for Rich and Elaine, but I believe they got lots of snow from about three episodes through last week. The most recent NC event was a vicious Nor'easter (one of those mean ole' storms that whacks away at my beloved Outer Banks) which mainly caught the middle Peidmont region and the coast by surprise. We certainly have had some weird weather of late though. Here in the coastal plain we MIGHT recieve about 2 snowfalls a year, but have had 4 in the last eight days (the first three were inconsequential though.)In my little hamlet of Bethel, NC we had 6 inches of snow after several inches of rain and 60 mph wind gusts (found my daughters trampoline in my neighbor's yard.) By golly, in eastern NC, when we do weather, we don't mess around (remembering lovely Mr. Floyd here.)The mid-section of NC got the worst of the snow, Raleigh had over 20 inches. I think good ole' Governor Hunt is about ready to pull Mother Nature's hair out! I think the National Guard thing is probably to help clear roads and such since we aren't equipped here for BLIZZARDS! I do remember another rare event though - in March of 1980 we had 36 inches in Greenville - talk about a paralized town! I rather like the snow events myself (I guess I never outgrew that) and regarding Global Warming, La Nina - ah heck! LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW!!!

Enjoying our rare Winter Wonderland,
Diana
