Thanks, Rich! I hadn't read that page yet. I rented the '36 film over the weekend and watched the whole thing. Yes, it is astonishing, all the similarities... Even Captain Jack, is Jack Winthrop, just like in '92! And Chingachgook's mournful speech...word for word. But what was really astonishing was Hawkeye "joinin' up" at the end!! Ha!

Speaking of patterning mannerisms after the '36 film...what I saw was a similarity of HAWKEYE'S mannerisms, especially handling the longrifle. That little toss-and-catch-up of the barrell when readying to move...and Randolf Scott was so handsome, with such sturdy integrity, yet sweet and gentle with Miss Munro...could have been an inspiration to DDL. Did he view the '36 version, does anyone know?
