: : As far as who's first off the jump into the E ticket swim fest, well, it has been mentioned before, and no answer then either; as to why; well, I figure Ching just got tired, hung up a bit on a rock, and let go after his sons swept by him.....I was always amazed they kept all of their "goods" with them...(even those bedrolls...) in the book, even Hawkeye's rifle stays behind at the falls...(if I remember right....)
: : It is interesting on my VHS screening, there is a faint shadow, a "man in the moon" shadow of a "diver" on that "free fall into the river scene" but on my DVD version, no such shadow....guess that clears that up....

: Perhaps old Chingachgook took an "involuntary" break.  Under waterfalls like that, huge whirlpools can form which take great effort to escape.
